  • STEP #1: Register your team on Wyoiff.com and pay the registration fee. Teams can be as big or as small as you want! Registration is open from April 2rd to June 5th. Only one person per team needs to register.

    STEP #2: Join us on Instagram live @wyomingfilmfest on June 7th at 6:45 pm MST. We will announce the required prop, line of dialogue, and genre. Remember! Your film must include ALL THREE ELEMENTS to be eligible for the festival. Don’t have Instagram? No worries! We will immediately follow up with an email to all registered teams and a post on Facebook detailing the elements required for the festival.

    STEP #3: Start shooting! The 48 Hour Film Festival runs from Friday, June 9th 7pm MT to Sunday, June 9th 7pm MT. You have exactly 48 hours to shoot, edit, and turn in a completed film.

    STEP #4: Join us at the Wyoming International Film Festival for 5 days of movies from all over the world! On Sunday, July 14th we will screen all finalists from the 48 Hour Film Festival to a live audience. This is your chance to see your work on the big screen! Winners and prizes will be announced at the festival.

  • • Only registered teams may participate. Only one person per teams needs to register.

    • Films must include all required elements; prop, line of dialogue, and the genre. The prop must be clearly visible on screen and characters must interact with the prop. The line of dialogue must be used verbatim; spoken, written, sung, or in voice over. The genre must be clearly evident in the film. Films that do not include all 3 elements will be disqualified. Judges reserve the right to determine if a film meets all criteria or not.

    • All films must be delivered within the 48-hour time limit; no exceptions, no excuses. Friday, June 7th 7pm MT to Sunday, June 9th 7pm MT is the official time period. Late films (even if late by just 1 minute) will be disqualified.

    • Accepted films are eligible for eight awards:

    o Best Script

    o Best Director

    o Best Actress

    o Best Actor

    o Best Use of Required Prop

    o Best Use of Required Dialogue

    o Best Use of Required Genre

    o Best of Fest

    • All creative work must take place within the official time period. This includes but is not limited to; scriptwriting, rehearsals, costume/hair/makeup/set design, filming/editing, sound design, rendering and output/upload.

    • The only work allowed outside of the official time period is; organizing of cast and crew, securing equipment and locations, sourcing music, adherence to local guidelines such as releases, permits, or insurance.

    • Filmmakers are encouraged to work with a composer or musician for original music. Stock music is allowed only if the filmmakers have the proper rights to use it.

    • All films must be 100% made in Wyoming. Out-of-state filmmakers are welcome to participate, however production and post-production must take place inside of Wyoming. Out-of-state filmmakers may be asked to provide evidence their submission was made in Wyoming.

    • All cast and crew must be volunteers. Professionals, amateurs, hobbyists, and people of all skill levels all welcome to participate, but no one on the cast or crew is allowed to be paid.

    • Films must be a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 6 minutes. Runtime must include credits, and the credits must include the official Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival logo, as well as the statement “Made for the Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival”.

    • All footage must be original! No stock footage or pre-shot footage allowed. No pre-made visual effects, animation, graphics, or text is allowed. Everything must be created within the official time period.

    • No nudity or graphic content. Filmmakers are encouraged to keep their projects equivalent to a “PG-13” rating.

    • Safety of cast, crew, animals, and the general public must be of the utmost importance at all times. Endangerment to the health and safety of anyone, whether involved in the festival or not may be grounds for disqualification.

    • Finalists will screen during the Wyoming International Film Festival in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Sunday, July 14th. All films, regardless if they are finalists or not, will be given four (4) all access passes to the International Film Festival. The 48 Hour Film Festival screening is open to the public.

    • Filmmakers acknowledge they own the full copyright to their film, soundtrack, and other elements contained within the film and have the legal right to exhibit the film in the United States. The festival takes no responsibility for any copyright violations and the filmmakers agree they are the sole responsible party. By submitting to the festival, filmmakers acknowledge they have secured all proper releases, permits, and insurance, and hold harmless the festival of any liability.

    • All filmmakers and teams grant the festival permission to use the films in promotional material, either in part or in whole, and grant the festival permission to upload or distribute the film online.

    • All sales are final.

  • • Filmmakers may shoot on any camera, including phones.

    • Accepted frame rates are 23.98fps, 24fps, 29.97fps, 30fps. All films must be delivered in one of these frame rates.

    • Films may be shot in any aspect ratio, however all films must be delivered as 1920x1080 full frame, square pixels. Letterbox or pillarbox are accepted so long as they meet the 1920x1080 requirement.

    • Films must be delivered in an .mp4 or .mov wrapper. No other formats are accepted.

    • Sound must be stereo mixed to no louder than -12db. If a film exceeds this mixing, the festival will compress the audio which may result in bad audio, which will affect judging decisions.

    • Run time must be between 1 minute and 6 minutes including credits.

    • All films must include “Made for the Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival” as well as the provided Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival logo in their credits. Failure to include the statement and/or logo may be grounds for disqualification.

    • Films must be delivered either by a Google Drive link, Dropbox link, or by Wetransfer.com to contact@wyoiff.com. File size should be no more than 2gb max. If the festival cannot properly download the film this may result in disqualification.

    • Filmmakers must include the Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival Metadata paperwork along with their submission. Failure to turn in this paperwork within the 48-hour window may result in disqualification.
