New Mountain Hill Elementary enhance STEAM education with ‘Spring Steam Open House’

HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. (WTVM) - New Mountain Hill Elementary (NMHE) collaborates with Columbus State University and other programs to enhance STEAM education in Harris County.

On March 12, Columbus State University, and the Professional Art Integration Resources program (PAIR), partnered with (NMHE) to host its “Spring STEAM Open House” showcasing a collaborative community partnerships and innovative STEAM education initiatives. Principal Jessica Burnett says she’s excited to empower future educators. “Our Spring STEAM Open House is a testament to our commitment to providing engaging and interdisciplinary learning experiences for our students. Through partnerships like the one with Columbus State University, we’re able to empower future educators with the tools and knowledge to excel in STEAM education.” said Principal Burnett.

The PAIR is a program that equips teachers with everyday tools to fully integrate arts content into their core content classrooms. Assistant principal and STEAM coordinator at NMHE Anita Wadley, says the PAIR program has greatly impacted STEAM education.“The PAIR program has been instrumental in enriching our curriculum with arts integration, fostering creativity, and enhancing student engagement. By incorporating arts content into core subjects, we’re providing students with diverse avenues for expression and exploration.” said Wadley.

Outside of academics initiatives, NMHE’s Hilltop Harvest Community Garden is addressing food insecurity in the Harris County District with help from Creekside Intermediate Schools Jr. Beta Club, the Harris County LEAP Program, and the H.O.P.E. ( Helping Our People Excel) Center. Wadley says its important for students to be involved initiatives to better the community. “Our partnership with local organizations underscores our commitment to holistic student development and community engagement. Through projects like the spring planting initiative, we’re not only cultivating crops but also nurturing compassion and social responsibility among our students.” said Wadley.
