Nearly 2,500 students gathered at the university’s Tate Student Center and via livestream overnight Saturday for the 27th annual Dance Marathon and the first in-person event after a two-year hiatus caused by COVID-19.

The fundraising total includes other efforts in the past year. Organizers did not say how much was raised just at the Dance Marathon.

“It was amazing what we were able to accomplish last year, having to do everything online,” said Annabelle Smith, hospital relations co-chair for UGA Miracle. “But the scale of the traditional event doesn’t quite come through when you have to livestream from your living room. We were looking forward to getting that full energy back, seeing everyone all together.”
