THE SPECIAL HATS REPRESENTING THE GEORGIA SOUTHERN GOLF TEAM HAS BECOME A HOT COMMODITY, AFTER GEORGIA SOUTHERN GOLFER BEN CARR WAS SEEN WEARING ONE DURING HIS EXPOSURE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION THIS WEEKEND WHERE HE WAS RUNNER UP AT THE U-S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. (MARTN) "AS THE WEEK PROGRESSED WE NOTICED AN INCREASE IN ONLINE SALES FOR THE GOLF HATS AND SO WE WERE PAYING ATTENTION OF COURSE TO THE TOURNAMENT AND AS BEN GOT CLOSER TO THE FINAL ROUND SALES JUST BLEW UP." IN FACT, THE STORE BEGAN RECEIVING ORDERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY... (MARTIN) "WE'VE SHIPPED TO MASSACHUSETTS, COLORADO, TEXAS, CALIFORNIA, NEW JERSEY, CONNECTICUT, ALL OVER." AND ALL OF THIS MAKES GEORGIA SOUTHERN GOLF COACH CARTER COLLINS VERY HAPPY. (CARTER COLLINS, GEORGIA SOUTHERN HEAD GOLF COACH) "WE'RE PROUD FOR WILLIAM AT SOUTHERN EXCHANGE, THEY'VE BEEN SO LOYAL SINCE HE STARTED THIS SHOP A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAVE BEEN A BIG PART OF THE BRAND AND THE CULTURE GETTING ENHANCED IN THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT." Southern Exchange Co. seeing an increase in hat sales

A national television appearance and runner up at a major tournament for a Georgia Southern University golfer is paying big dividends for a Statesboro business.“In terms of increased sales, probably I don’t know, 100-fold increase over the last week," said William Martin, owner of Southern Exchange Company.Martin is talking about the run they’ve seen on hats. The special hats representing the Georgia Southern golf team have become a hot commodity after Georgia Southern golfer Ben Carr was seen wearing one during his exposure on national television this weekend where he was runner-up at the U.S. Amateur Championship.“As the week progressed we noticed an increase in online sales for the golf hats," said Martin. "And so we were paying attention of course to the tournament and as Ben got closer to the final round, sales just blew up.”In fact, the store began receiving orders from all over the country.“We’ve shipped to Massachusetts, Colorado, Texas, California, New Jersey, Connecticut, all over," Martin.And all of this makes Georgia Southern golf coach Carter Collins very happy.“We’re proud for William at Southern Exchange," said Carter. "They’ve been so loyal since he started this shop a few years ago and have been a big part of the brand and the culture getting enhanced in the local and national spotlight.”Even though they’ve seen a substantial uptick in sales of the hats at Southern Exchange, it’s not the first time they’ve sold them at the store.“For the longest time that logo was exclusively for the golf team," explained Martin. "Something Carter and those guys came up with and he worked with me and allowed me to start selling them.”“I was a little concerned that maybe I talked him into something that was going to cost him money at first, " said Carter. "But whatever is good for William and whatever is good for Georgia Southern is good for us.”Coincidentally, Southern Exchange had just received a new order of the hats in the last couple of weeks, so they should have plenty of supply to fill orders.
