The Savannah native grew up going to Chatham County Schools and later graduated from Georgia Southern University. Years later, she’s back in a Chatham County classroom — this time, as a teacher. "It’s awesome honestly because it has always been a dream of mine to give back to the community that raised me and made me who I am. Every day I just love being able to come in here and be able to do what I do," Shadle said. Being a first-year teacher, Shadle says her first day last August was nerve-wracking. "(I was) super excited but so nervous. It’s really scary for the first time be like, ‘Yeah, you’re a teacher and here’s 30 kids that are all yours,'" Shadle said. As she's about to wrap up her first year of teaching, Shadle is confident this is her lifelong career. She says she always wanted to teach elementary education and she loves her first group of students. "I feel like for me it’s just a little bit easier for me to connect to them when they’re younger. I just love the personalities and the sweetness that comes along with the age," Shadle said. Shadle says she enjoys teaching math, but oddly enough, didn’t enjoy it as a student. Academics aside, Shadle says she loves how joyful her students are and says it’s contagious. The kids are the reason she says she gets up and teaches every day. "There are always hard moments but being able to help them learn and help them grow and even just seeing the difference from the start of the school year to the end of the school year."Click here to see other teachers who have been honored with the WJCL 22 Teacher Feature Award.
