UGA resumes asymptomatic COVID testing

With the start of the University of Georgia’s spring semester classes, UGA resumes its testing of asymptomatic students, staff, and faculty: a pop-up coronavirus testing site is on the west lawn of the University’s Tate Student Center, open at 10 o’clock this morning.

The UGA College of Public Health, in partnership with the UGA Health Center, is offering free, walk-in, asymptomatic-only COVID-19 testing. No registration is needed. Bring a UGA ID.

Jackson County School officials say classes are back in session with, so far, no disruption in class schedules and school operations because of the Omicron-fueled surge in coronavirus case counts in Jackson County.

City government buildings in the DeKalb County town of Clarkston are closed to the public in another concession to climbing coronavirus case counts.

The Georgia Department of Public Health, moving to help meet the growing demand for coronavirus testing, opened two so-called mega testing sites Monday, one in Cobb County and another in DeKalb County.

Quarantine guidelines are loosening for Georgia teachers. Governor Brian Kemp and Public Health Director Kathleen Toomey have outlined details that will allow teachers to come back to school after a COVID exposure. They will be required to wear face masks for 10 days upon their return to classrooms around the state.
