Local briefs: health care conference at Georgia Center, ARCO concert at Hodgson Hall

UGA and its College of Public Health are hosting the State of Public Health Conference today in Athens: it is taking place at the University of Georgia’s Georgia Center.

There is music this evening in Athens. The ARCO Chamber Orchestra is in concert, 7:30 in the University of Georgia’s Performing Arts Center.

The Clarke County School District’s School Board Advisory Committee meets this afternoon in Athens, a virtual session that starts just after 5 o’clock.

The Athens-based Rural Green Power company is asking Elbert County Commissioners for a tax abatement that would spur development on 320 acres near Bowman. RGP is hoping to build a solar energy facility near Bowman.

The president of the Elbert County Development Authority is resigning. Daniel Dobbins is stepping down after three years on the job. Dobbins says he will leave his post in Elberton at the end of the year.

He was first denied bond, but now a Hall County judge has now granted bond in the case of Cameron Millholland. He is the former Gainesville High School teacher who was arrested earlier this fall on child molestation charges.

We have this morning the name of the Gainesville man killed in a motorcycle crash in Hall County: the Georgia State Patrols says 31 year-old Alexander Navarro was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on Prince Road. State Troopers say the 56 year-old driver of the car that hit him was not seriously injured and will not face charges in the accident.
