Kemp, Morehead clarify teacher, state worker bonus announcement

The Governor’s office is clarifying this week’s announcement of one thousand dollar bonuses for teachers and state workers, saying now that teachers in some school districts will not get the bonuses until after the first of the year. University of Georgia president Jere Morehead says UGA’s full time staffers will see their bonuses added to their December 29 paychecks.

From UGA president Jere Morehead…

Dear UGA Faculty and Staff,

On Dec. 18, 2023, Governor Brian Kemp and legislative leadership announced a one-time $1,000 state employee retention pay supplement for K-12 educators, school support staff and state employees, including the University System of Georgia (USG). Faculty and staff eligible for the supplement are those in a regular, benefits-eligible status working 30 or more standard hours as of Dec. 1, 2023, and are actively employed at the time the payment is processed.

This supplemental retention payment will be paid on the last business day of the month, Dec. 29, for all eligible bi-weekly and monthly employees. Please note that these pay supplements will be automatically added to your paycheck. Any emails or other messages asking employees to validate their pay or banking information to receive this supplement are scams or fraud attempts and should be reported to the Office of Information Security via email to abuse@uga.edu.

We are grateful to the Governor and legislative leadership for including USG employees in this initiative. University Human Resources and Payroll staff are working now to review and validate payroll data to process these payments, and we sincerely appreciate their efforts as well.

Please feel free to contact University Human Resources at hrweb@uga.edu if you have any questions.

We appreciate all that you do on behalf of the University of Georgia and wish you and your family a happy holiday season.
