VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - The Lady Blazers continue to make history this season as they get ready to host their first NCAA south regional over the weekend.

Valdosta State heads into the regional as the number one seed and they come in riding their national best 26 straight win streak and there is no time to crumble now. It is officially the do or die time of the season.

Head coach Deandra Schirmer said, “We had gone through the win streak so that we could win a regional tournament in front of Blazer Nation. So that’s something that’s really been our driving force. It’s been the fans in our community. They’ve been amazing. We’re undefeated in the Complex and we’re very confident when we have Blazer Nation behind us. So it’s something that was a huge goal of ours and to accomplish that is one more step in the journey that we have as a bigger picture.”

VSU will host Miles College in their first game of the south regional tournament on Friday at 5 p.m.

The Golden Bears come into the Complex with a 23-6 overall record and are the defending SIAC champions.

“Miles is a very talented team,” said coach Schirmer. “They’re also very physical. I think they have a great match up for us as far as size where we are use to being a little bit bigger a little bit stronger than some of the teams we face and they kind of match that physicality so for us what we’ve got to be able to do it lock in on our defense and our rebounding. That will be key for us. We know all the points that we come by are going to be tough sledding so we’re focused in on making sure we’re executing on offense as well.”

Tickets for the South Regional are available at the VSU Athletic Ticket Office or by calling 229-333-SEAT (7328). All tickets for the tournament are general admission. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for youth/senior/students. VSU students will be admitted free with a valid VSU student ID. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, Mar. 11 at 9 a.m. Click here for a link to purchase tickets online, but the link won’t be live until tomorrow at 9 a.m.
