Watford Ladies sides enjoy wins over Tottenham and Nottingham Forest

The first team got their FA Cup campaign off to a flying start with an 8-1 thrashing of Mortimer FC in the first qualifying round.

Rebecca Lovelace, who was first to find the back of the net, went on to score a fine hat-trick, with Lily Hall bagging two. There were also goals for Sophia Amanor and Francesca Grazioli, who scored a penalty.

Coach Jordan Williams said: “The team showed unity and determination with a solid defence, a creative midfield and tenacity up front”.

In the Junior Premier League every Watford team from Under-12s through to Under-18s won their games.

Among the highlights was a tense thriller as the Under-15 Warriors beat Tottenham 4-3 in the first group game of the JPL Cup.

Cassidy Davies put Watford in front with a delightful chip. Ella Weaver fired home to double the lead before a strong Tottenham side, who were dangerous on the flanks, scored two in quick succession to equalise.

Watford didn't panic and two minutes later Davies slotted her second past the keeper, with Eva Delaney then finding the net after an Amy Moynihan through ball.

Tottenham pulled a goal back, but Watford held on for a well-earned victory to the delight of the home support.

The Under-12s took on South Coast visitors Sussex Girls RTC, running out 6-3 winners with five different goal scorers and a brace from the impressive Isla O’Sullivan.

There was a rewarding journey north for the Under-18s as goals from Maya Shah, Safiya Dean and a lovely half-volley from Savannah Lamont sealed a 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest.
