ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University (ASU) is celebrating a significant milestone as it experiences growth for the third consecutive year. The university’s spring enrollment for the 2023-2024 academic year has surged by 3.3% compared to the previous year.

“We are proud to offer a dynamic and diverse learning environment that empowers our students to achieve their academic and personal goals,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success, Kenyatta Johnson. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential. Student success and academic excellence will remain our top priorities.”

ASU’s success extends beyond enrollment numbers. The university has achieved the highest increase in retention rates among all National Institute for Student Success (NISS) partner institutions in the USG. ASU’s overall retention rate for both full and part-time Bachelor’s degree-seeking students has risen from 61.9% in 2022 to 76.8% in 2023, demonstrating a 14.9% increase.

In addition to overall retention, ASU has also seen significant gains in the retention rates of first-time, full-time freshmen. 78.4% of bachelor’s degree-seeking freshmen have returned to continue their academic careers, marking a 10.3% increase, the highest among NISS partner institutions in the USG.
