We can also provide elective rotations in Primary Care, Dermatology, Shelter Medicine, Zoo/Wildlife, among other fields to best augment your training upon request. Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital is a progressive, 24-hour emergency and referral center with locations in Akron and Cleveland Ohio. Your internship year at Metropolitan will be enriched with rotations in: Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, and Avian/Exotics. We can also provide elective rotations in Primary Care, Dermatology, Shelter Medicine, Zoo/Wildlife, or other field of your choosing to best augment your training upon request. With leading-edge technology at the forefront of our facilities, you will be able to provide your patients superior care with our on-site reference lab (IDEXX), ultrasound, (standard and patient-side), echocardiography, digital radiography including dental, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy), flexible and rigid endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, YAG laser, telemetry, and all the other standard critical care monitoring equipment necessary to provide gold standard care at a busy progressive 24-hour specialty hospital.At Metropolitan, we focus on teaching our Interns through multiple didactic rounds each week. Additionally, we offer numerous journal clubs, grand rounds, clinical pathology conferences, and resident-level courses. As part of the program, Interns are required to prepare a clinical pathology presentation, a technician CE presentation, a grand round presentation, and encouraged to submit a publication to a peer-reviewed journal.The Intern’s schedule is flexible and customizable, in line with your area of interest. Six elective weeks are built into the schedule to allow further concentration in the Intern’s area of primary clinical interest. These rotations can be onsite or offsite at a place of your choice. WE VALUE OUR INTERNS; therefore, we offer an industry high pay of $50,000 for the Internship year, coupled with the low cost of living in Ohio. Additionally, we provide $2,500 continuing education stipend to be used for off-site learning, books, equipment, etc. to help you in your training. Metropolitan will provide a portion of medical insurance, uniform allowance, and reimbursement for Ohio licensure.

Our schedule is a 60% specialty rotation/40% ER rotation, which is broken up between ER days and ER nights- We build-in days off during the ER block for a better work-life balance.
