Small Animal Rotating Internship

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists

This internship is designed to prepare participants for advanced training in a specialty program as well as gain experience in emergency and critical care cases. Interns rotate through a core rotation in internal medicine, surgery, ECC, and radiology as well as spend time in elective rotations. Our interns work with board-certified specialists in the diagnostic workup and treatment of cases as well as supervise cases in the intensive care unit during their hospitalist rotations. Weekly didactic rounds are conducted and all interns will present a case report or topic of their choice to their peers and mentors at Grand Rounds.

QPR Instructor (Question, Persuade, Refer for suicidal ideations).-Support doctors and technicians through assisting in communication with clients through freeing them when clients demand excessive time-Provide de-escalation techniques for clients when needed (De-escalation training provided in didactic teaching rounds)

The case load will vary greatly depending on which service the intern is rotating through. This is a large specialty hospital that has a high case load. We work hard to balance the number of patients seen by interns to ensure the highest levels of experience and education.

Hospitalist Rotation: This is an overnight rotation where the intern is supervising the care of hospitalized patients. They also are involved with the transfer of emergency cases to the appropriate specialty service the next business day.
