Have you heard 'Slow Burn'? Slate's Watergate podcast is hot right now

Looking for something new to listen to while you drive to work/go for a walk/wash the dishes? We're here for you. In weekly series Podcast Pick, we're highlighting a podcasts, audio personalities or specific stories worth hearing.

Slate's 'Slow Burn' podcast, hosted by Leon Neyfakh, revisits the Watergate scandal. And feels very timely.

Before Bridgegate, Emailgate and Memogate, there was the one that started the suffix we'll probably use in a new iteration any day now.

Remember Watergate?

More than 40 years after the scandal that prompted Richard Nixon's resignation, Slate is debuting a new podcast on the subject. Slow Burn, hosted by reporter Leon Neyfakh, flashes back to a politically tumultuous time that's not so far removed from today's turbulent climate. In eight episodes, Neyfakh shares little-known stories about what it was like to experience a president's downfall.

The show has been hot right out the gate, horrible pun intended: After premiering earlier this week, Slow Burn is already one of the top shows on Apple podcasts.

Ep. 1, "Martha," feels especially timely as many women are coming forward with stories to take down powerful men. The episode, about the wife of one of Nixon's conspirators, shows how Martha Mitchell tried to be a whistleblower. What happened? Well, people thought she was crazy, she was silenced and now, years later, we see she was telling the truth.

Slow Burn is available on iTunes or wherever you download podcasts. Slate Plus members also get access to extra content like extended interviews.
