Carbon Free Power Project

On November 8, 2023, UAMPS and NuScale announced the mutual agreement to terminate the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP). After careful consideration of various factors that affected the project’s viability, it was determined that the project was unlikely to achieve sufficient subscription to remain viable and ending the project was therefore the most prudent decision for both parties.

Throughout the early stages of the project, CFPP achieved noteworthy milestones and produced valuable work product that will provide a foundation for future projects in the industry. Most notably, the Combined License Application (COLA) was on track for a January 2024 filing and the application has been sufficiently matured to serve as a reference COLA for future projects.

CFPP LLC is actively engaged in ongoing dialogue with the U.S. Department of Energy on the future of the CFPP cost share award and the disposition of CFPP project assets, including the ownership of long-lead equipment. NuScale and UAMPS are committed to optimizing the utilization of project assets and have developed a comprehensive wind-down schedule to guarantee an efficient conclusion of the project. This collaborative effort underscores a shared dedication to responsible project management and the maximization of resources, reflecting the commitment of all parties involved to a well-coordinated and successful resolution of the CFPP project.
