2024 Newaygo County Area Promise Zone Scholarship Application

To qualify for the Newaygo County Area Promise Zone Scholarship, students must:
  • Graduate from a Newaygo County high school or a registered Newaygo County homeschool and reside in the NC RESA service area. Homeschool students must provide a transcript and SAT scores during the application process.  Unregistered homeschool students are not eligible.
  • Achieve a minimum final and unweighted high school GPA of 2.5. 
  • Achieve a minimum final and unweighted 2.0 GPA to access Promise Zone support in pursuing an apprenticeship.
  • Attend grades 7th-12th in a qualifying school. The level of assistance is prorated based on the number of years attending 7th-12th grade:  100% – 6 Years; 90% – 5 Years; 80% – 4 Years; 60%-3 Years; 40% -2 years; 20% – 1 year.  Homeschool student scholarship proration is based on registration with NC RESA for grades 7th-12th with their first year of registration beginning their proration.
  • Begin using the scholarship within one year of high school graduation and complete the associate degree program (up to 62 credits) within three years from beginning the scholarship.
  • Complete the FAFSA application and highly recommend submitting scholarship applications to the Gerber Foundation and Fremont Area Community Foundation.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (recommended 15 credits per semester, minimum 12 credits per semester). 
  • Be continually enrolled for all fall and winter semesters at Muskegon Community College until completion of the scholarship program (attendance during summer semester is optional).
  • Attend MCC or an approved apprenticeship program with a commitment to complete an associate degree or credential. 
The Promise Zone scholarship will pay for up to 62 total attempted credits towards an associates degree, and does not cover books and/or housing.
