Who We Are

Founded in 1979 by Dr. Julian Stanley, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a nonprofit dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced K-12 students around the world. We provide today's brightest students with fun, challenging courses; a community of engaged learners; and a strong foundation for future success in college and their careers.

What are CTY’s virtual programs like?

Synchronous Programs:

  • LIVE: Offers a blend of synchronous online instructor-led activity and independent learning that includes discussions, class projects, and interactive exercises designed to foster community in a digital environment. The program's instructor-developed courses are limited to about 10 students per section and focus on a range of engaging topics taught by instructors who specialize in teaching advanced students.
  • Problem-Based Learning (PBL): CTY’s problem-based online courses blend synchronous, collaborative, student-directed learning and independent exploration to solve complex, real-world problems. Course are grounded in problem-based learning and are interdisciplinary.

Asynchronous Programs:

  • Traditional Online Programs: Online Programs offer both session-based and individually-paced asynchronous programming. We offer over 200 exciting and challenging courses for our studentsInstructors serve as major support system to students/parents as students navigate their independent studies.

Virtual Student-lead Clubs

  • CTYers (our students 😊) have found enrichment and connection with their peers outside the traditional course format via the formation of virtual clubs. 

What are CTY’s on-campus programs like?

  • Offers day and residential learning environments for 7 weeks each summer. Sites are located domestically and internationally.
  • We have commuter day sites and residential sites located in CA, CT, MD, NY, PA, RI, TX, VA, WA

  • Administrative: Roles include Site Director, Academic Counselor, Academic Dean, Dean of Residential Life, Office Manager, Dean of Operations, Academic Dean’s Assistant, Dean of Students’ Assistant, General Assistant, and Residential Program Assistant.
  • Tech Support: Computer Support Assistant
  • Student Life: Roles include Resident Assistant and Senior Resident Assistant,
  • Wellness: Roles include Site Nurse and Health Assistant.
