Working in partnership with other international institutions enables us to have a greater impact and influence on global challenges.

The Faculty works with a small number of handpicked institutions to collaborate and achieve shared goals. We aim to make the most of each partner’s unique strengths to create impact.

Research partnerships

We want to establish our international reputation to maximise the societal impact of our research by broadening its global reach, demonstrating its influence, and encouraging its translation into diverse populations. This will allow us to access internationally focused funding streams, increase the recognition and citation of our publications and help us attract and recruit the best researchers and students. To achieve these goals, the Faculty works with a small number of handpicked biological, medical and healthcare institutions across the globe that share our research interests, approach and commitment.

The Internationalisation Team works closely with these institutions to facilitate interactions and the Team will happily arrange introductions to researchers from these institutions.

These partnerships are supported by annual calls for collaborative research proposals and, in the case of Melbourne, a dual award PhD programme.

In addition to the University-wide partnerships, we have a number of international partnerships and initiatives that are driven at Faculty level, including those with:

- Work has been done to build on the existing relationship between Indiana University and the Faculty of Humanities. There are several research areas in which FBMH is actively building links, including maternal and foetal health, immunology, immunity & inflammation, and metabolism and diabetes.
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital
- FBMH is undertaking work to uplift cancer services through healthcare education, training and research as part of the Kenya-UK Healthcare Alliance.
Peking University Health Science Centre
- FBMH has worked with Peking University Health Science Centre to host a series of themed workshops focused on health informatics, genomics, stroke and small vessel disease, dementia and pain. SciLifeLab, Stockholm
- FBMH is currently exploring opportunities in relation to the core facilities and SciLifeLab, a technology and data science focused institution that is primarily interested in developing the ways we look at biology.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine
- FBMH has worked closely with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to host joint research symposia focused on key themes including: cancer research, early detection, radiotherapy; neuro-imaging; infection, genomics, AMR; developmental biology, early life development; rheumatology; and musculoskeletal science. University of Bordeaux
- FBMH is currently exploring links with the University of Bordeaux around cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular and cell matrix research.

Teaching partnerships

We want to inspire and prepare the next generation of leaders, educators, innovators and researchers within basic biology and healthcare. To be recognised for this globally, we are working with international partners to develop their academic staff and to provide their students with the opportunity to train internationally.
