Meadowbrook News

From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
Next Friday is our Meadowbrook Service Night - a wonderful way to spend time with your child and give back to the community at the same time! In a big world, it can be difficult for children to know where they fit in and or how they can start making a difference. By participating in the stations at service night, children will see that actions which might seem small, can make a big difference in the lives of others.
Please read below for more details about Service Night and know that we really need your support in making this event a success. Thank you in advance for helping, whether that means donating items or volunteering at the event. Both your time and your donated items are needed!
I have corrected the link for the caregiver event regarding eLearning (read below for more details). If you have any questions about how you can support your child on an eLearning day, please join us!
In honor of Veteran's Day, I want to say thank you to all of you who have served or are serving; much gratitude to you!
In partnership,
Natalie

eLearning Support for Caregivers
As you've heard, Hopkins has made a change to our inclement weather policy (sometimes thought of as snow days). Starting this school year, when there is a need to close school due to weather, schools will shift to an eLearning day. If you would like to learn more about how to support your children on eLearning days, please join us on Tuesday, November 29 from 6:00pm-7:00 pm. Childcare will be available.
Together we will:
- Help caregivers understand the expectations for students on eLearning days
- Help caregivers understand their role in supporting their children
- Help caregivers become familiar with frequently used Apps including Canvas and Google Meets
If you are interested in joining us, please complete this form to help us with our planning.
National Native American Heritage Month
In honor of National Native American Heritage month, we have two read aloud stories and one student recommended restaurant suggestion!
Below you will find the links to listen to Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard and We are Grateful by Traci Soreli. We hope you and your children enjoy them!
If you are interested in tasting indigenous ingredients and cooking techniques, we encourage you to try Owamni in Minneapolis. Last year 5th grade students recommended this restaurant and it was very delicious. In addition to great food, the atmosphere lends itself to great discussion and gratitude for Minnesota's first peoples and reminds us that Native American people and culture are still present in Minnesota.
