Welcome to SFCC Counseling Services

Whether you are facing a difficult life experience, wanting tools and support to manage stress, or seeking personal growth SFCC Counseling Services is here to help.

Helpful things to know about Counseling:

  • Counseling is free of charge for all registered SFCC students
  • Counselor will listen carefully and work with you as a student to support you in ways that are meaningful to your specific circumstances
  • Counseling is confidential and is not part of your academic record
  • There is a private room available for students awaiting counseling sessions
  • For many students, it is their first time coming to counseling
  • Counselors are professionally licensed

Some ways the counselor may provide support:

  • Attentive listening and compassionate support
  • Sharing useful skills such as anxiety reduction techniques and  stress management strategies
  • Collaborating in development of an action plan or practices to meet student’s emotional, academic and personal goals
  • Provide community referrals and resources that support student wellbeing
  • Self-care and relational support
  • Support students with short term services and provide a bridge to long term professional care if needed.

SFCC has an in-person counselor at the Student Wellness Center

  • Walk-ins are welcome to come to the Student Wellness Center (LL312) and if the onsite counselor is available she will meet with you or schedule a time as soon as possible.
  • If the counselor is not available, students have the option of a private room to contact UWill online counseling or any support hotline (we have an available list in the room or see resources below)
  • SFCC Counselor can make online appointments during open
    office hours Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

SFCC Counseling Services works in collaboration with Uwill, which offers students free immediate access to teletherapy, a direct crisis connection, and wellness programming through its easy to use online platform. Uwill is Private. Secure. Confidential.

Uwill also provides students free access to on-demand wellness programming through its easy to use online platform. Select wellness from the left hand side navigation menu to relax and recharge your mind and body. Uwill wellness includes a wide range of videos for yoga, academic breaks, relationship support, meditation, and more! Allow Uwill to help you discover greater focus and balance as you navigate the semester.

Connection to Mental Health Resources

    • Worried about your safety or someone you know;

    • Having a hard time managing strong emotions;

    • Feeling hopeless, confused, or angry;

    • Worried about alcohol or drug use (substance use);

    • Need information or referrals for local community services;

    • Have something on your mind that you want to talk over with someone outside of current situation;

    • Service member or veteran and their families in need.

People who call 988 are given these options:

    • Press 1 to connect with the Veterans Crisis Line

    • Press 2 to connect with the Spanish Subnetwork

    • Press 3 to connect to the LGBTQI support for youth and young adults

    • Remain on the line or press 0 and be connected to a local crisis center; if local crisis center is unable to answer, the caller is routed to a national backup center

People who text “TALK” to 988 will be connected to crisis centers equipped to respond to texts.
