Low-cost internet options

The Seattle Housing Authority is committed to ensuring that people who live in SHA housing or rent with an SHA voucher have access to the internet and the wealth of opportunities it provides such as email, job search, school information and homework, access to medical providers, online banking, research, community services and so much more.

The City of Seattle’s Information Technology Department has identified two service providers that offer affordable internet access for low-income households in Seattle. 

Here are two companies that provide internet access for around $10 a month:

1. Comcast: Internet Essentials Program

Cost: $9.95 + tax per month, unlimited internet (speeds up to 15Mpgs down, 2Mbps down)
Details: No credit checks, contracts or equipment rental fees. Customers must live in an area where Comcast is available. 
Installation: Free installation and in-home Wi-Fi. Access to 40 one-hour sessions of XFINITY Wi-Fi hotspots outside the home every 30 days.
Eligibility: Find out if you’re eligible by looking at the programs below. To qualify for any of the programs below, you must live in an area where Comcast Internet service is available but not have received services to it within the last 90 days. And you must not have any outstanding debt to Comcast that is less than a year old.

2. Simply Internet by Wave

Cost: $9.95 + tax per month, unlimited internet (speeds up to 10Mbps).
Details: No credit checks, contracts or equipment rental fees. Customers must live in an area where Wave is available.
Installation: Free installation and in-home Wi-Fi.
Eligibility: Individuals must qualify for the Seattle Utilities Discount Program, low-income subsidized housing or has a child who is eligible for the free or reduced school lunch program.
