AIKEN, S.C. (June 15, 2023) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site (SRS), signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding with Denmark Technical College (DTC) with the continued goal of helping prepare students for their future careers at SRS.
DTC is the only historically black technical college in the state of South Carolina, focusing on technical career training, associates degrees, and a four-year college transfer program.
The agreement enables SRMC to continue providing guidance to DTC students on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) with the focus on work experience with apprenticeships, internships, and opportunities for full-time jobs.
The original collaborative agreement between SRMC and DTC was signed in June 2022. Since then, SRMC has hosted several tours for DTC students and professors, hired students for six-month internships, presented a college-to-career seminar on campus, and donated funds for scholarships and classroom equipment.
SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson believes continuing the MOU continues to offer a winning opportunity for both DTC students and SRMC after this past year’s MOU agreement.
“DTC students who are preparing themselves for their future may qualify to work in positions or internships being offered by our company,” Olson said. “We believe this collaboration makes a strong investment in education, providing students with an added edge in their future careers.”
DTC President and CEO Dr. Willie L. Todd Jr. said the arrangement has been and will continue being mutually beneficial for both organizations.
“We are grateful for SRMC’s support and the opportunities they continue to provide for our students. SRMC's investment in the students of Denmark Tech will have a marked impact on their career trajectory and financial mobility,” Todd said. “The renewal of this agreement will help us to create more pathways for students to carve out successful careers with SRMC.”
The MOU between SRMC and DTC is effective from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2025, and can be renewed.
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
