he NRP Group Celebrates Executive Order Preventing LGBTQIA+ Discrimination

On behalf of The NRP Group, Pride at NRP applauds the signing of Executive Order 13988: Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation on January 20, 2021. This order revises the federal government’s position and states that equality based on sex includes the protection of sexual orientation and gender identity from discrimination in Americans’ daily lives. Whether in employment, housing, medical care, or education, the right of all citizens to access these basic services without the fear of discrimination, mistreatment, and bigotry is safe in the eyes of the law.

On Thursday, February 11, 2021, HUD issued a press release stating its position is to enforce Fair Housing Laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity. According to the release, HUD’s position states that sex is a protected class in federal fair housing laws and that sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination is prohibited.

Pride at NRP welcomes these efforts to erase discriminatory policies and promote equality for the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, this executive order requires government agencies to review their procedures, documents, programs, and other agency actions, to ensure and enhance the protections of our community members. The order also requires agencies to address the overlapping forms of discrimination based on race, color, disability, and veteran status, as minority groups face a disproportionate amount of discrimination.

Pride at NRP formed in 2020 as an employee resource group to advance the diversity and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ associates. Pride at NRP is part of the NRP Group’s Diversity + Inclusion employee resource group. NRP values diversity of all viewpoints, life experiences, races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, gender identities, and ages. NRP believes equal protection under the law is a fundamental right in the workplace and in the housing industry.
