Synopsis: On a farm in rural Northern Ireland, estranged brothers Turlough and Lorcan are forced to reunite following the untimely death of their mother. But when the pair discover an unfulfilled bucket list belonging to their late mum, their pained reunion takes an altogether different course.
About the Filmmaker: ‘An Irish Goodbye’ is the second short film from co-writer/director duo Tom Berkeley and Ross White, following the breakout success of their debut short, ROY, which was one of ten films longlisted for Best British Short Film at the 75th BAFTA Awards in 2022.
Hailing from Belfast and Gloucester respectively, the pair founded the Northern Ireland based production company Floodlight Pictures in 2019, having worked previously as a writing partnership since 2017.
In 2022, the duo were selected for BBC Writersoom’s ‘Belfast Voices’ cohort. Their debut short ROY was recently acquired by HBO following a festival run which included Palm Springs, Flickerfest, Bolton, Rhode Island, LA Shorts, PÖFF, Vancouver, Show Me Shorts, Hollyshorts, Foyle, Edmonton and Santa Barbara International Film Festivals.
Their early work in theatre laid the foundations for their writing dynamic, with their early plays recognised by the Kenneth Branagh Award for Drama Writing, Papatango Prize and the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting
