Barstool founder David Portnoy gave his famous "One Bite" pizza reviews to two Essex County spots this week, and he enjoyed them both.

The two reviews came out this week, one for Teglia in Montclair and the other for Blue Steel in Bloomfield. Both pizzerias feature thicker crusts and are newer to the area, but Portnoy praised each style.

The "One Bite" reviews started nearly a decade ago and found a following with 776,000 YouTube subscribers.

Blue Steel was first. Portnoy likens a Detroit style such as theirs to an offensive lineman in football: "thick and beefy but light on its feet."

Portnoy sunk his teeth in and said "good" almost immediately. He said he's a fan of their style but lamented the lack of marinara sauce, a common trait of Detroit pizzas.

"Really good Detroit style, no other way to put it," he said, while also praising the interior of Blue Steel and its more upscale restaurant vibe. It's something our own restaurant reviewer appreciated as well.

The verdict? A 7.8. Higher than his average for a Detroit style, he said, but it's tough for the genre to score in the 8s for him.

Next, he visited Teglia, one town over on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.

Portnoy debated the genre of pizza Teglia serves, noting he can't always tell the difference between grandma or Sicilian. But the chef clarified that it's Roman style.

The thicker crust and "great undercarriage" drew praise from Portnoy.

"Wow. We’re having a good run of pizza here," he said with a mouth full of the slice.

Ultimately, Teglia received a 7.9 rating, slightly edging out its neighbor from Bloomfield.

Portnoy is no stranger to North Jersey's pizzerias. He also reviewed Lido in Hackensack (an 8.1) among others.
