She attended country school through the 8th grade. She had ambitions to be a nurse but was unable to attend high school as she was needed to work on the farm.

Marty met the love of her life (Jim) at a dance. He told her he was going to marry her that night, the very first time they met. She said she liked him because he sang, played guitar and was a gentleman. They were married on October 21, 1943 in Rolla, ND. Jim passed away in 1993 after 49 years of marriage.

Marty and Jim raised 4 children. Richard, Sharon, Judy and James Jr. (Jimmy).  After living in several areas they settled at a farm by Dunseith. Marty worked at San Haven as a nursing assistant for 13 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to a Homemakers Club.

After the children were grown, Marty and Jim lived at Lake Metigoshe and Bottineau, eventually settling in Apache Junction, AZ where she lived until returning to Bottineau to be closer to family.

Marty enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, reading and watching her TV programs. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Marty loved to play cards and enjoyed a game anytime. She had a strong faith in God.
