NAPABA Judicial Council Summer Internships

The NAPABA Judicial Council will offer four summer internship opportunities with its members and an accompanying $1,000 scholarship stipend. Internships are available with:

  • Judge Denny Chin, U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit    

  • Judge Holly Fujie, Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County 

  • Judge Jacqueline H. Nguyen, U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit

  • Chief Justice Robert J. Torres, Supreme Court of Guam

Eligibility: You must be a rising 2L or 3L during Summer 2023.

Deadline:  January 15, 2024

Application Requirements: To apply, by January 15, 2024, please send in a single pdf file the following by email to Judge Curtis A. Kin ckin@lacourt.org with the subject line “Application for NAPABA Judicial Council Internship”: 

1.     Cover Letter (indicating for which internship(s) you wish to be considered, discussing your interest in the internship(s), and providing names and contact information for up to three references)

2.     Resume

3.     Writing Sample (10-15 pages)

4.     Law School Transcript (may be sent separately as grades become available)

Fred T. Korematsu Summer Fellowship

In partnership with the Fred T. Korematsu Institute, NLF will be accepting applications for the Fred T. Korematsu Summer Fellowship Program. The program will provide $6,000 to a law student for a meaningful summer internship at a public interest organization. The fellow will work to further Fred T. Korematsu's legacy as a civil rights pioneer. Initial funding was provided by Parkin Lee and The Rockefeller Group.

Eligibility: You must be a rising 2L or 3L during Summer 2024.

Deadline:  April 19, 2024

NLF Underserved Communities Fellowship

NLF has established a $6,000 fellowship for a host organization and student who aspires to advance the interests of underserved AAPI communities. 

Objectives:

  • Increase legal services or otherwise advance equal justice to underserved AAPI communities. These may be AAPI communities that are underserved because of geographic isolation or because the ethnic community lacks sufficient resources to adequately advocate for its rights.

  • Strengthen the ability of NAPABA affiliates and local organizations to advocate for the rights of underserved AAPI communities.

  • Provide work experiences for current or incoming law students that prepare them to advocate for underserved AAPI communities once their fellowship ends.

  • Provide a lasting impact on efforts to advance justice for underserved AAPI communities; and

  • Inspire future lawyers to work towards advancing justice for underserved AAPI communities.

Eligibility: Host organizations must submit a project proposal.

McGuireWoods NLF Internship Program

The McGuireWoods/NLF Internship Program supports students interested in the legal profession and will help students develop a commitment to advocacy on behalf of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. The Program seeks to achieve these goals by providing undergraduate and law school students with meaningful internship experiences at the Washington, DC offices of NAPABA and NLF.
