Four things I learned from taking part in #MaptheSystem. 1️⃣ You don’t know complexity until you’re sucked into 100 holes. 2️⃣ Systems maps mean nothing unless they tell a story. 3️⃣ Systems and human experiences cannot be separated. 4️⃣ Building on this, there is no single way of creating change. 2019 Map the System finalist, Jillian Mah, from Mount Royal University revealed the learnings she took from taking part in the programme. Read the full blog to understand why systems mapping and systems thinking help you understand the problem to better solve it. http://ow.ly/PQsk50G3FXO

My heart is so full. Today we launched the Climate Changemaker Playbook. Putting this together has been something of a side project for over a year, and now it's in the world. Honestly? I'm exhausted and jet lagged and a bit bewildered. I'll do a proper post with the playbook itself when I've had a minute to catch my breath, but for now I am just grateful. Thank you to all the people who came this morning - too many to name - your energy was infectious. Thank you to Agamemnon Otero MBE, Imandeep Kaur and Charles Watson for such a fun panel. To Yuxian Seow, Shafat Khan, Alexandra Pilavachi, Anu Bhatnagar and María Razquin Gómara for being the backstage team. To Ilana Wetzler for everything else. *link to the playbook in the comments below

Throwback to the Skoll Africa Oxford International Women's Day event last month - a success! The evening was filled with powerful stories and insights thanks to our incredible panel of leading young African women scholars working in and across various professions and leadership journeys. 📌The event began with Sepiso Dean Mwamelo’s presentation titled “Young, Feminist and Fearless- Holding the Line”. Having engaged young people across 82 countries, the research showcases how feminists are leading global movements in challenging injustices. She emphasised that rethinking funding related initiatives, rebuilding trust, eliminating bureaucratic barriers, building allyship and prioritising mental health are key to leadership empowerment. Our programme coordinator, Elizabeth Abubakar then moderated an interactive session on the theme “Driving Inclusion: Empowering Women in leadership” Key highlights from our distinguished panel included; 📌Sandra A. Martey ‘s story as a TVET advocate and her work with the UNFPA in developing blueprint entrepreneurial policies and programs on harnessing fashion for socio-economic empowerment of women and young girls in Ghana and Kenya. 📌Chishimba Kasanga (Chichi) took us on a historical journey via her current PhD thesis on Zambian women’s embodiment of resistance in the historical struggle for good governance. She shed light on the transformative power of collective action by bringing the political advocacy work of women to the limelight, and challenging the narrative that women have not participated in leadership. 📌 Sabrina Maonde emphasised the need to leverage our power in whatever capacity to drive change. In the midst of numerous bureaucratic barriers especially within large organisations, she emphasised self-reflection as an important tool for staying true to one’s personal values on driving inclusion. 📌Based on her cross-sector experience, Elizabeth Abubakar encouraged women with various interests, talents and skills to leverage it to their strategic advantage, enjoying an evolving journey of connecting the dots to catalyse multiple streams of impact. Their stories of resilience and leadership serve as a powerful reminder that when women thrive, communities prosper. This event was curated as part of the year long Skoll Africa Oxford Mastercard Leadership program organised by Skoll Centre in collaboration Africa Oxford initiative. Special appreciation for our panellists, the Skoll team (Marya Hill-Popper Besharov Elizabeth Abubakar Elizaveta Belkina Menna Clarke), Klaudia Budniak from Creative Destruction Lab, Africa Oxford Initiative (Anne Makena, Phd Sepiso Dean Mwamelo Ruth Shoo and David Kerr), Oxford University Africa Society (Ruth Nanjala Isatou Bokum), Luena Abigail Pimenta Ricardo (President, Oxford University Brazilian Society) and our amazing and enthusiastic audience for making this experience a reality! 🎉 ❤️
