I didn’t own any Barbie dolls growing up. I think “A Case Study on the Failure of the Barbie Doll in the Indian Market” by Nemani explains it all. My daughter went through a Barbie phase in her pre-school and I was glad that the phase was fairly short. I was not a fan of Barbie because of the unrealistic beauty standards that were not very inclusive. I went to watch Barbie with my husband and teenage daughter. It was a fun evening and we all had some pink on us. The Barbie monologue about empowerment and breaking stereotypes resonated with me, as it highlighted the importance of challenging societal norms and pursuing one's passions regardless of gender. The message of embracing diversity and fostering a supportive environment struck a chord not only with those striving to excel in a traditionally male-dominated field, but with everyone in the audience. Congratulations Greta Gerwig for being the first woman to have a solo directing credit on a billion-dollar movie. Thank you for making Barbie! This movie pulled men to theaters. It maybe curiosity, nostalgic elements from childhood, wanting to experience something different or simply accompanying friends or family members. This movie and its marketing team had the potential to resonate with a wide range of people beyond its intended audience due to its storytelling and production qualities. This is a huge win and a great learning opportunity for many. Every year there are multiple industry conferences that have topics like gender bias, women in the workplace and, personally, for me, women in the semiconductor industry that I chaired. We have struggled to get the other half of our workforce (male colleagues) to attend. I hope Barbie’s monologue has connected to its audience in a meaningful way and we will see the impact and engagements beyond movie theaters. #womeninsemiconductors #iamintel #allyship #womeninleadership #inclusionmatters #equality #advocacy

I’ve attended some of those industry events. From personal experience I think it would draw more men if, when advertised, men were also invited. Many times it seems like the men are not welcome to those events in the marketing so they don’t show up. However, when I have attended I’ve felt welcomed.
