We have advised senior financiers Oma Säästöpankki Oyj and LähiTapiola on a transaction in which Meriaura Ltd acquired two Ecotrader cargo vessels to be delivered by the Dutch shipyard Royal Bodewes. Meriaura's vessels operate contract and cargo services mainly in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Maritime transport plays a key role in logistics in Finland and the drive towards carbon neutrality contributes to the pressure of the industry to renew and adopt new technologies. The investment is a continuation of Meriaura's series of investments in energy efficient tonnage using bio-oil. The DLA Piper advisory team included Hans Sundblad, Mikko Luukkonen, Iiris Tuohimaa, Elise Bergman, and Satu Saarikoski. Click to read the news on our website (available also in Finnish).

Please join DLA Piper for a discussion on the Foreign Extortion Prevention Act (FEPA). Signed into law in December 2023, FEPA criminalizes the “demand side” of foreign bribery – that is, makes it illegal for any foreign official to demand, receive, or agree to receive a bribe from a US citizen, company, or resident. On April 3, our Partners Nereida Melendez and Sonia Torres, with our Of Counsel Jacabed Rodriguez-Coss and Hugo Carrasco Soulé, Sr. Legal Director at J&J Innovative Medicine, will discuss its implications.
