Since its launch in Fall 2023, EWiB has been on a mission to arm women students with the skills and insights needed to thrive as leaders, while navigating and overcoming gender-specific challenges. It's been an absolute joy mentoring Amy Vady and joining forces with Jacyn Meyer's class for an engaging Q&A session on "Initiative and Risk Taking," featuring the remarkable Karen Hertz of Holliday Brewing. 🚀 Huge applause to Malena Brohm ( pic below!) for her outstanding leadership and unwavering passion, as well as to the incredible network providing invaluable guidance to this program. Recent research published in The Journal of Business Finance and Accounting unveils a compelling truth: Gender diversity on boards significantly impacts M&A success. With over 10,000 U.S. firms valued at over $1M under scrutiny, the findings are crystal clear. Gender-diverse acquirers outshine their male-only counterparts, boasting mean dollar returns of $16.77 million versus $3.88 million. Delving deeper, every unit increase in the fraction of female directors augments a firm's probability of making a value-creating acquisition by a remarkable 18%. As someone entrenched in the world of M&A over the past decade, I've witnessed firsthand the pivotal role of skills like listening, balancing divergent perspectives, networking, and realism. Early gender barriers are evident, with Lego's study spanning 36 countries and 60,000 participants revealing that girls as young as five face language bias which negatively impacts their confidence, self-worth, and creativity (And, as a mom of now adult boy/girl twins, I suspect the same would be found for boys and the pressure language may negatively influence them as well.) As a leader and advocate for gender equality, I spearhead initiatives like developed the The WICT Network: Rocky Mountain Mentoring program, chaired the Girls Inc. of Metro Denver board, am an officer of the GALS Denver board of directors, an all-girls charter Middle and High School.
