Our Market Development Facility (MDF) recently surveyed nearly 100 of Tonga's vanilla farmers, revealing some valuable insights for the sector. Did you know that most farmers in Tonga are growing on only one acre of land? And few farmers use store bought 'agri-inputs' such as pesticides and herbicides. Instead, they're spending their money on land preparation and labour. MDF promotes sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries across the Pacific. Data like this helps us do that. NEW PUBLICATION! Palladium's Anna Lisi and Michelle Li and Palladium alum Nena do Nascimento are Guest Editors on a new special edition of the Oxford University Press' Open Digital Health journal. Drawing on two years of research led by our USAID-funded Data.FI Project, the issue explores USAID's global COVID-19 vaccine delivery investments and asks whether health systems can come out stronger overall once a crisis has passed. "It is rare to have the opportunity to bring together multiple USAID funded projects and so many great minds to research and reflect on an emergency health response and what it means for digital health," says Nena. "So excited to get this journal supplement out to the broader community!" Can mentors and a nurturing corporate environment transform the often competitive world of consulting into a place where friendships and positivity can thrive? That was the goal for the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment as we worked with Webhelp Jordan to empower youth employees through skill development and career opportunities. And for two young women at the beginning of their careers, it worked. Our people are often asked why they do what they do and in many cases, there's a pretty powerful 'why' behind their work. This is the case for Caroline Bostock FIEP, our Director of Employability and Community Services. She and her 'why' were recently featured by The Institute of Employability Professionals, where she's a Fellow. A year ago, we launched Propcom+ with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Propcom+ is a follow on to Propcom Maikarfi, which ended in 2021 after helping over 1.4 million farmers increase their incomes. Over the next seven years, the project plans to improve livelihoods and enhance climate resilience for nearly 4 million smallholders and small-scale entrepreneurs, while improving nutrition for the most vulnerable segment of Nigeria’s teeming population.
