MAN UP is a peer-to-peer service empowering young men and redefining masculinity, through workshops & open discussions.

About us

MAN UP is a social enterprise, peer-to-peer education service in WA, with the goal of empowering young men and redefining masculinity. We run workshops on various topics centred around men’s mental health and well-being, with an emphasis on transforming boys into confident, purpose driven, emotionally capable men. Our aim is to change the phrase ‘Man Up’ to mean something positive; to live authentically from one’s heart, embrace vulnerability, and hold one another accountable to stand up for what’s right.

We're so excited and proud of our co-founder, Haseeb Riaz, for being named Auspire - Australia Day Council WA Community Citizen of the Year for 2024 recently. We're excited for what's in store for Man Up this year, and recognition like this is an incredible beginning to the year for us!

I've recently returned from my elective at Moorfields in London, and was really honoured to hear that I had been named Auspire - Australia Day Council WA 2024 Community Citizen of the Year at the Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove, and Mosman Park awards ceremony. This award is a testament to the growth and engagement of Man Up with young men around the state, and represents the hard work of the volunteers, committee, and executive members of the team. I wasn't able to personally attend, and a huge thank you to Kendall Whyte, Kate Chaney MP, Town of Mosman Park, Shire of Peppermint Grove, Town of Cottesloe, and Georgie Carey, for their hospitality and welcoming nature to my parents who are picture receiving the award on my behalf!

The second conference we had the privilege of presenting at was this year’s WONCA. WONCA is the biannual international primary healthcare and general practice conference, which was held in Sydney in late October this year! Man Up presented some of our survey feedback and data from our work over the last year, and how to engage young men with primary healthcare and preventative health awareness. Haseeb (co-founder) and Matthew (president) headed to Sydney and also connected with a lot of men’s health clinicians from around the world. 🌏🌟 We talked about what kind of support young men seek, the importance of community-based peer-to-peer services, and the opportunities to better engage young men in a healthcare setting. 🩺🤗 It was an incredible opportunity and we wanted to thank all of the team at RACGP and WONCA that supported our presentation at this international conference! 🎤

Recently, Man Up was able to present some of our data and some of our work around engaging young men in conversations. In mid-October, Haseeb (co-founder) headed to Hobart for the Rural Medicine Australia conference to talk about our specific engagement with young men in rural areas. 🚜 We talked about the barriers and stigma for young men in rural areas to engage with healthcare seeking behaviour, and also the importance of community-based peer-to-peer services. 🩺🤗 It was a truly exciting opportunity and we wanted to thank all of the team at RDAA and ACRRM that supported our presentation at this premier rural health event! 🎤

Today is R U OK Day, and although we shouldn’t have to wait for a specific day to ask this question, let’s use this as a day to raise awareness, prompt discussion, and normalize vulnerability 🙏🏾 Take a look at our guideline on how to check in on a mate, and ask ‘Are U OK?’ ✨

A huge thank you to the ‘Old Goldfielders Lodge’ for raising a very generous donation for MAN UP at their annual Curry Night Fundraiser 👏🏾 We’re so grateful for communities like these ones who go above and beyond to provide us with much needed funds to be able to continue the work we do. Fun Fact - the MAN UP team is all voluntary, and so receiving donations as this not only allows us to keep our operations running smoothly, but it enables us to set up more sustainably as we grow into the future 🪴 Thank you once again! 🙏🏾

A few weeks ago the MAN UP team was very fortunate enough to attend DART’s FDV Training. The session was not only eye opening, but incredibly impactful, leaving all of us with a very clear picture of what the reality is for so many families - and how we can go about in helping. The company does amazing things and we highly recommend checking them out if you’re trying to get your organisation to grow in a positive way 🙏🏾✨

📢 ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 DART Group Australia is delighted to announce our Impact Statement for the last financial year. Our team has made significant strides in our family, domestic, and sexual violence prevention and response training, reaching over 734 training participants! This includes a number of gifted training places and FREE webinars, aimed at bridging the gaps in the broader system's response to FDV across Australia. Our commitment to addressing these critical issues is reflected in the number of individuals we have reached through our evidence-based and tertiary training programs. By providing access to valuable resources and specialist FDV knowledge, we aim to equip individuals and organisations to actively respond to family, domestic and sexual violence. The provision of gifted training places and free webinars not only ensures that our programs are accessible to a wide range of participants but also emphasises our dedication to inclusivity and equality. We understand that financial constraints should not hinder individuals from accessing important training opportunities, especially when it comes to addressing such sensitive and prevalent issues. Through our training initiatives, we aim to educate participants with the necessary skills, tools and knowledge to effectively respond to and identify family, domestic, and sexual violence. By closing the gaps in the broader system's response, we hope to create a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to addressing these issues. We are immensely proud of our team for their commitment and dedication to making a positive impact in this area. Their hard work and passion have enabled us to reach such a significant number of training participants, ultimately contributing to the overall improvement of our response to FDV. Moving forward, we remain steadfast in our mission to continue providing high-quality evidence-based and affordable training opportunities to build a service system response of FDV and sexual violence-informed organisations. By raising awareness and promoting prevention strategies, we can create a society that is better equipped to respond to these issues and protect those most vulnerable. Together, we can create a safer and more inclusive society for all. 🌏💜 We are grateful for the opportunity to have such a profound impact and the ongoing support of many organisations who continue to support and partner with DART Group Australia. 👉 Find out more about DART Group here: https://lnkd.in/g5xmmAkA #impactstatement #FDVtraining #inclusivity #equality #empoweringcommunities #makingadifference #DARTGroupAustralia #DomesticViolenceAwareness #TrainingForChange #ImpactStatementResults #TogetherAgainstAbuse #domesticabuse #trainingprograms #enddomesticviolence #sexualviolence #safercommunities Lorraine Sheridan Marnie DIllon Keri-Ann Smith Daphne White Sabine Winton MLA Simone McGurk Roger Cook Justine Elliot MP Sue Ellery Amanda Rishworth
