The Irish drinks sector is a powerhouse of agri-food exports and driving force of economic activity throughout the island of Ireland, north and south, urban and rural. In 2023 the total value of all drinks exports approached €1.8 billion with and the value of Irish whiskey exports from the all-island economy exceeding €1 billion alone. We are an export powerhouse, with products in over 120 markets around the world. Our Irish brands are known the world over and are some of the first touch points tourists have with Ireland before even arriving here. Our sector’s export success can be attributed to the trend of premiumisation of Irish drinks, with overall value growing at more than twice the rate of volumes – a global example of how many people are drinking “less but better”. For 159 years, we have been brewing the beer the world loves. Transitioning to a circular economy is a must if we plan to be here for many generations to come. Inspired by principles of a circular economy championed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation — eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials, and regenerate nature — we're on a mission to maximise the circularity of our products. 🔄 Our strategy is built on three pillars: Reuse: We continue to transition from one-way packaging to reusable formats, reducing the need for new materials. Our 2030 goal: 43% of volumes sold in reusable format Recycled Content: elevating recycling rates, fostering collaboration and closing the loop to increase % of recycled materials in our packaging and reduce the amount of virgin material. Our 2030 goal: 50% recycled content in bottles and cans Recyclable by Design: We want to make our packaging recyclable by design so consumers can recycle and help us close the loop. Our 2030 goal: 99% of all packaging is recyclable by design Earth Day is a reminder of the continuous journey we're on to Brew a Better World, one beer at a time. We care about people and the planet and are proud to be going the extra Inch’s with Nisa to deliver new green spaces for communities in partnership with the Make a Difference Locally (MADL) charity. The HEINEKEN Company and the Rijksmuseum extend partnership The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is home to some of the world's most renowned pieces of art, such as Rembrandt van Rijn’s Nachtwacht (the Night Watch) and Johannes Vermeer’s Melkmeisje (Milk Maid). HEINEKEN has a strong relationship with the Rijksmuseum, as our founder, Gerard Heineken, was one of the Amsterdam entrepreneurs who helped construct the building that still houses the museum today.
