JCCC Healthcare Information Systems (HCIS) students are highly motivated, innovative, and proficient problem-solvers. They understand the significance of exceptional healthcare knowledge, information technical skills and healthcare customer service to support data-driven improvements in clinical and public health outcomes in individual and population healthcare delivery. Our students, skilled in technical support, concurrently improve quality through system and workflow analysis and redesign. Employers find HCIS program graduates to be competent, versatile and inquisitive professionals. The HCIS program is proud to be a HIMSS Approved Educational Partner, providing students with a strong healthcare IT foundation and with certification through HIMSS. Utilizing the leading-edge technologies, such as the Cerner EHR Millennium platform, the program equips students to implement, support, train and integrate digital healthcare information systems to improve the quality, efficiency, and security of patient records. HCIS students work in simulated environments developed by Cerner Corp. Immersed in the most current instructional guidelines. They are taught by skilled professionals and build their skills through invaluable HCIS industry internships. HCIS professionals specialize in the information technology to support clinical processes and data, including roles which analyze system workflows, test-configure-maintain systems, and train end-users for software use. Possible HCIS job titles: Systems Analyst, Health Data Analyst, Data/Support Analyst, IT Security Analyst, EHR Clinical Applications Analyst, EHR Analyst, Clinical/Health Information Specialist, Clinical Systems/EHR Specialist, Trainer, Project Manager, Compliance/ Security Officer, EHR Developer, and Auditor. Employment is available in clinical and non-clinical settings such as hospital systems, clinics, health departments, software vendors, third-party payers, device companies, non-profits, and government.
