The HCIS program is proud to be a HIMSS Approved Educational Partner, providing students with a strong healthcare IT foundation and with certification through HIMSS. Utilizing the leading-edge technologies, such as the Cerner EHR Millennium platform, the program equips students to implement, support, train and integrate digital healthcare information systems to improve the quality, efficiency, and security of patient records. HCIS students work in simulated environments developed by Cerner Corp. Immersed in the most current instructional guidelines. They are taught by skilled professionals and build their skills through invaluable HCIS industry internships. HCIS professionals specialize in the information technology to support clinical processes and data, including roles which analyze system workflows, test-configure-maintain systems, and train end-users for software use. ✨ 🎓 🌟Congratulations Ithzel Perez, a December 2023 JCCC Healthcare Information Systems Program Graduate❗ Ithzel, a technology expert and health IT enthusiast, began her pursuit of her health IT career as a Cerner Scholar in high school. Along with strong academics at Johnson County Community College, Ithzel completed an internship in Health Information Technology at The University of Kansas Health System. She presented her internship project on Acquisition Data findings to the UKHS IT executives. Additionally, Ithzel is proficient in healthcare terminology in both English and Spanish. JCCC Department Chair and Associate Professor, Lori Brooks CPHIMS,SHIMSS commented: "Ithzel is a conscientious and hardworking individual. Her determination to succeed at a high level led her to excel during her time at JCCC and will serve her well throughout her health IT career." Purity completed an internship at Atchison Community Health Clinic, Inc. where she helped the clinic upgrade to the current version of their EHR system. Specifically, Purity updated the user-based security settings within the EHR system and assigned role-based security settings. Through this hands-on work, Purity improved her project management, communication, and technical proficiency skills.
