“The #HIV community possesses a unique perspective on the value of democracy. Our health, rights, and lives hinge upon its preservation. Yet, these fundamental pillars are under siege this election year. As Americans, we understand the power of our vote and our expectations that those we elect do their duty to uphold our rights, health, and well-being. In the wake of #AIDSWatch, our message to Congress remains clear: we demand action to preserve and protect our democracy, our lives, our health, and our rights. Because, at our core, we are Americans, too.” #AIDSWatch2024 was a pivotal moment for people living with and vulnerable to HIV. Working to end the HIV epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making, capacity building and policy.
About us
AIDS United is singularly focused on ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. During our almost 30-year history, we have changed and grown the funding landscape for HIV and transformed the policy environment. To date we have directly funded more than $98 million to local communities and have leveraged more than $115 million in additional support for programs that include access to care for people living with HIV, capacity building for community-based organizations, HIV prevention, advocacy, syringe access, and more. Through our Public Policy Committee, we’ve built the largest and strongest coalition of HIV-focused organizations working at the community level. Our coalition works together every day to ensure national and local policies reflect local realities and support an effective response to the end of AIDS.

At this year’s AIDSWatch, advocates called on members of Congress to pass the Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act (REAHYA) which would support comprehensive, medically accurate, LGBTQ+ inclusive sexual education programs for youth. LGBTQ+ youth are often left out of sex ed curriculum, with REAHYA we can ensure queer youth are involved in these important conversations. With inclusive sexual education that provides information to youth on HIV testing, prevention and treatment, we can ensure that we end the HIV epidemic while empowering youth to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. #TBT to AIDSWatch Annual Congressional Reception. We gathered, shared stories and experiences, and fostered an even stronger sense of community with advocates from around the country. AIDS United presented the Congressional Leadership Award to Representative Nikema Williams, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman. Our partners at the U.S. People Living with HIV Caucus presented the Castro Bojorquez Positive Leadership awards to Tez Anderson, Tiommi Luckett, and Harold Phillips, the previous Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy. We're in this together. Learn more about AIDSWatch 2024: https://lnkd.in/gF2t93kE #AIDSWatch #EndHIVEpidemic #ThisIsWhatAnHIVAdvocateLooksLike
