Hammersmith & Fulham Council will freeze council tax bills for 2022-23 – making it one of only two councils in London to freeze bills this year.

This will deliver a real terms cut as H&F residents face the worst cost-of-living squeeze in 60 years.

At a full council meeting last night (24 February), the council also formally approved £7.5million of new investment on key services for residents, as well as to freeze charges in adult social care, children’s services and housing.

Cllr Stephen Cowan, Leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, said: “As we meet tonight, families and citizens across our borough face an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis. Food bills are up already by about £30 a week, for each of our, many of our neighbours across the borough.

“We have the highest inflation now for 30 years, the worst cost-of-living squeeze in 60 years, and we see rocketing energy bills and government taxes that are about to hit households around Hammersmith & Fulham.

“It is without doubt a challenging time, and as you already know, many people are struggling to pay their bills and to make their household finances balance. So, I am pleased that tonight Hammersmith & Fulham will freeze council tax.”

And again, as we meet tonight, families and citizens across our borough face an unprecedented cost of living crisis. Food bills are up already by about £30 a week, for each of our, many of our neighbours across the borough.

We have the highest inflation now for 30 years, the worst cost of living squeeze in 60 years, and we see rocketing energy bills and government taxes that are about to hit households around Hammersmith & Fulham.

It is without doubt a challenging time, and as all already know, many people are struggling to pay their bills and to make their household finances balance

These are unusual things to be happening and we can blame Brexit or blame Covid or blame the government, but they are happening, and they're happening to people in Hammersmith & Fulham.

So, I am pleased that tonight, with this document and the votes that will surely follow, we in Hammersmith & Fulham will freeze council tax.
