The Initiative for Community Power creates opportunities and supports for high-impact teaching and learning about power, power-building, political economy and social change. The Initiative also fosters partnerships between academia and field-based organizations to create a more equitable, democratic, and racially just society. Our mission is to spark leadership, build community, and sustain partnerships.

Sparking Learning

The Initiative creates, funds, and supervises fellowships for students from NYU Law and across the University to work in organizations and on academic projects challenging inequality. Read about our fellowships and courses.

Building Community

The Initiative organizes reading groups and screenings and hosts speakers, visiting scholars, and convenings on issues related to inequality, racial justice, political economy, policy, power and social change. Read about our community activities.

Sustaining Partnerships

The Initiative partners with power-building organizations and the public sector to confront endemic inequality and develop strategies that create community power and democratic engagement. Read about our partnerships.
