Event: Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge 2022, from 25 June 2022 to 26 June 2022
We support people living with brain injury to give them the best quality of life

Story

The RedSky team are again supporting the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN), an independent medical charity that specialises in rehabilitation and long-term care for people with damage to the brain. The challenge this year is the Cotswold Way Challenge, a long-distance walk of 53km (33miles) on 25th June 2022.

This hospital is very close to our hearts. Back in 2017 our much loved Development Manager, a RedSky stalwart of 29 years, Cliff, suffered a cardiac arrest whilst on a training bike ride for an upcoming charitable bike ride to aid Heart Research leaving him with severe brain damage and needing long-term care. Cliff was cared for by the RHN until he sadly passed away in November 2021.

The hospital is a registered charity, not part of the NHS.It fundraises to pay for additional services that boost the quality of life experienced by the people in its care. These include Leisure and Family Services, which provide a broad range of leisure activities for patients and support for their relatives, extra nurse support to enable off-site outings, therapeutic art, music therapy, leisure sessions in the patients pool and a multi-faith chapel service.

Asked about the RHN and their staff, Cliff’s daughter advised, “The hospital is fantastic in terms of providing stimulation and alternative therapies. For instance, Dad was put into a wheelchair for most of the day so he could be taken out of his room and around the lovely grounds (which we would do every time we visited during the day), the staff always spoke out loud to him when caregiving and he received regular treatment from occupational and physiotherapists to help him be as comfortable as possible.”

We are fundraising to help support the amazing care that they provide to meet the complex needs of people with profound disabilities arising from brain injury.
