Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Fellows Programme

The Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Fellows Programme provides an opportunity for highly qualified scholars in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian studies to visit the Aleksanteri Institute and the University of Helsinki for a period of two months.

During the fellowship, Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows work on their research projects and benefit from interaction with scholars at the Aleksanteri Institute and elsewhere in Finland. Each Visiting Fellow has two academic hosts who are working on a related theme and who help them to settle in and establish contacts with the research community in Finland. Visits are supported with a monthly grant.

Since 2008 the Visiting Fellows Programme has hosted over 160 Visiting Fellows working on various fields and themes within the social sciences and humanities, and representing 29 countries from Europe through North America to China.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS POSTPONED

Due to changes in the scheduling of budget negotiations concerning our upcoming funding period, we are not able to open a call for proposals for 2024–2025 in January 2024. We expect to know about the future funding cycle late in 2024 and hope to provide more information about the next round of visiting fellowships sometime around end of 2024. In 2024, we are hosting nine of the twelve Aleksanteri Visiting Fellows invited in the 2023–2024 call. Stay tuned for upcoming Visiting Fellows Seminars and Alumni Talks by our former Visiting Fellows!
