Healthcare Action in Sydney: Protect Kids From Coal

Healthcare workers and community members will gather outside the Energy Transition Summit, urging energy leaders to put the health of our kids and community first when planning our energy future.

Join us for a peaceful yet powerful demonstration on Thursday 12 May to highlight how pollution from coal-burning power stations is causing low-weight births, childhood asthma, type 2 diabetes and a range of other health impacts. It's essential that coal is phased out by 2030, in line with recommendations from The World Health Organisation and the International Energy Agency, and commitments must be made now to allow time to prepare for change.

Graeme Hunt, CEO of Australia's largest polluter AGL, pulled out of presenting at the Summit, showing that AGL is not serious about transitioning to a renewable energy future or about protecting the health of Australian communities. Instead, Graeme Hunt is focused on splitting AGL into two companies to hide their pollution in a company called Accel and make AGL appear cleaner than it is. It's imperative that big polluters feel the pressure from community members and industry representatives.

What will take place?

As energy industry representatives gather at the Energy Transition Summit at the Fullerton Hotel in Martin Place, healthcare workers dressed in clinical dress will hold banners, cigarette ad-style posters and distribute flyers to highlight the health impacts of burning coal. By engaging with summit delegates, we will also encourage them to put pressure on the big polluter AGL to commit to replacing coal with renewables by 2030.

Come along to be a part of this important opportunity to advocate for health protection. The more people who can take part, the louder the message will be so please join us and bring your friends and colleagues!

For COVID-safety, please only attend if feeling well and fully vaccinated (unless medically exempt).

Once you RSVP additional event information will be emailed to you prior to the day.

This is a peaceful, legal action. Any questions please get in touch.
