Additional argument in support of precautionary policy for overhead power lines

According to the Health Council of the Netherlands, recent scientific studies have provided an additional argument for the precautionary policy regarding overhead power lines. Indications have been found that leukaemia is more prevalent among adults who live near such power lines. One possible explanation for this could be the exposure to the magnetic fields generated by the power lines. In the workplace, where exposure to magnetic fields can be higher than in residential areas, studies have also indicated that exposure may increase the risk of leukaemia, but also a number of other types of cancer and neurological diseases.
