BARNESVILLE — The Gordon State College club football team gathered in the Highlander Dining Hall on Gordon State College’s campus on Tuesday, Nov. 30 to celebrate the team’s recently earned NCFA South Atlantic Conference Championship.
Attended by President Kirk A. Nooks, the Highlanders (8-2 overall, 3-1 conference) were recognized for their accomplishments during their first full season.
In addition to the championship celebration, head coach Kevin Adkins presented team awards.
This year’s award winners included:
• Offensive Player of the Year, Pacer Kincaid.
• Defensive Player of the Year, Jeremiah McDermott.
• Special Team Player of the Year ,Corey Worthy.
• Leaders of the Year, Caleb King and Mustapha Kroma.
After the dinner celebration, the players and coaching staff were recognized on the court during the home basketball game that evening.
“Our team has displayed the Highlander EDGE both on and off the playing field, and I am very excited that we have assisted the athletes in succeeding academically and winning the South Atlantic Conference Title,” said Adkins.
Under Adkins’ leadership, GSC’s football program has continued to promote and nurture good sportsmanship, healthy athletic competition and strong academic achievement.
“I am so proud of our players and coaching staff,” said Dr. Matthew Robison, GSC Dean of Students. “Winning a conference championship in their first full season of play is such a huge achievement for the team and the college.”
Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. GSC offers 11 four-year degrees and 16 associate-level degrees, which includes multiple baccalaureate pathways for students.
With an enrollment of over 3,000 students, GSC offers an intimate academic setting in state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. Students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.
