Position Description

Harris County Public Library – Lone Star College - Tomball Community Library, Northwest Harris County
Lone Star College (LSC) – Tomball Community Library is a joint library in partnership between LSC - Tomball and Harris County Public Library and serves academic and public communities.

This position directs and coordinates the daily operations of the Adult and Young Adult Services Division, implements and interprets library policies for library users and staff, supervises and motivates staff, models and promotes exceptional customer service, and engages the community to ensure services meet customer needs and are aligned with the library and department strategy. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between Library Departments, Branch Director/Manager and branch staff and oversees the daily operations of the Tomball Innovation Lab, as well as monitors current strategic objectives to develop future library services, community partnerships, and programs. The ideal candidate will exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules, coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff
  • Identifies library needs in the community; plans and provides adult and young adult services and programs to meet community needs
  • Develops and manages the department's planned expenditures, including gift funds, when applicable; identify grant opportunities
  • Supervises the library in the absence of the Branch Director
  • Develops and maintains rapport with external stakeholders, including the library Friends
  • Oversees the shaping of an engaging and attractive adult and young adult collections through awareness of current literature
  • Prepares reports to compile and analyze department's statistics
  • Attends staff and administrative meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serves on committees
  • Researches and applies for grant opportunities
  • Oversees the daily operations of the Tomball Innovation Lab
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA or AASL accredited school
  • At least three (3) years of Librarian experience
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Proficiency with the Internet and Office 365

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

Physical Requirements
This role may require exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. However, some duties may require bending, stooping & standing for periods at a time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.

HOURS:
  • Full-Time; 40 hours a week
  • Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.
 
SALARY:
  • $26.99 per Hour
  • Paid Biweekly
 
Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
