Shy Girls Can't Date Billionaires

Rate this book
He could have any girl, so why does he look at me?

After a fire destroys our home, a billionaire tycoon takes in my family, and it’s here I meet Thomas Ashworth III.

I’m always the invisible girl, but not to him. His intense eye contact has me fidgeting and stammering.

But my blushing turns bitter when he arrogantly dismisses my nerves as rudeness.

Not only are we stuck together at home, I’m forced into attending his exclusive private school.

Unsurprisingly, he ditches me in the halls, and the mean-spirited popular crowd ambushes me.

I should hate his guts, but he later blindsides me by doing something kind.

And once we stay up late sharing secrets, he’s impossible to get out of my head.

We’ve acted like enemies since we met, so we can’t date. Can we?

If you love The Curvy Girl Club by Kelsie Stelting and The Invisible Girls Club by Emma Dalton, you will adore this sweet young adult romance.

This cute and fluffy romance has all the tropes you crave: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, he falls first and she falls harder, dealing with past trauma and family issues, insomnia and there’s only one bed, plus a gothic tudor mansion and academy setting.

This is for the ones who love reading Mills & Boons/Harlequin romance novels.
This one doesn't read like young adult and I wanted more of the enemies to lover vibes.

Easy fun read. You will have a good time.

Thank you, Halo & Claws Publishing, for the advance reading copy.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC. OMG!! I finished this book in 2 days. That's how good it is. At first I was attracted by the book title but again, who wouldn't. I thought it would be a bit of a cliché.. she moves in, he thinks she's cute, she likes him, a few problems and then BOOM a happy ending.

This book starts when Christie wakes up one night to her families house on fire. Now homeless, her dad's boss (who is a billionaire) offers to let them stay in his house that's more like a mansion. Having to leave her school and hometown Christie begins to live there. In the same house a few doors away is Ash's bedroom, the billionaires son. At first he comes off as rude and bratty but when they get closer and he starts making her feel welcome, will they have a happily ever after?

This book was honestly amazing! It wasn't only about their relationship but also about their lives, backgrounds and families. I enjoyed the character development and how their relationship developed from the start of the book to the ending. All the character were written really well. The chapters are not overwhelmingly long and that is something that I always appreciate when reading a book. One thing that might make people turn away from this book is the cover. It's really a shame if someone doesn't read this book because of it's cover. I feel like more work could be put into the cover because, if I had to be honest, it just looks like a bunch of pictures from Pinterest mashed up together.

All in all, it was a fantastic book and I would really recommend. I hope people enjoy this and I would probably be one of the first to buy it if physical copies were made.

My Review
I received an ARC from NetGalley. Book comes out 05 Sep 2022
When a book starts off with a fire, it immediately makes me pay attention because I want to know what started it. This is how Shy Girls Can’t Date Billionaires by Molly Rose started. Surprisingly, this is not a romantic suspense. Not that I minded that it was not. It was enough to intrigue me.
Added to which, this book has a favorite trope of mine-forced proximity.
Thomas Ashworth III is a bit of a grump. He doesn’t want Christie and her family, who he views as charity cases in his home, but he has to put up with them because they have nowhere to go. Christie is definitely not little miss sunshine. She’s moody, anxious, and very much a loner. She also doesn’t have a single friend besides her parents. Needless to say, she and Thomas, aka Ash do not get off on the right foot. As the two are forced to be around each other both at home and in school, opinions and thoughts begin to change. Feelings begin to develop.
I liked seeing Christie grow as a person as the book progressed. I also liked seeing the different sides to Ash and I love that they are able to be open with each other. I liked the relationship between Christie and her parents.
All in all, this was a very sweet book. I truly enjoyed it and I want to read more by Milly Rose and I really, really want Ash’s sister to get her own book.

The story was emotional and deeper than just a billionaire who thinks she's cute. The character's were wonderful and deep.

I didn't think this would be quite as emotional as it was. I assumed it would be a fluffier read but it was still very good.

Christie is very shy, very insecure, and very scared. I felt like she was a good character but sometimes she was so insecure that I wished she would just grow a spine. But then sometimes she would grow a spine and I was proud of her but also didn't know how she could stand up for herself sometimes and others not at all. There was growth for this character which was very important. It was sad and also nice that we saw the insecurity still there even much farther in to the story which is very human to not be able to change on a dime and I loved that it wasn't unrealistic.

Ash/Thomas was amazing! I at first was really bummed because he seemed just awful in the beginning but over time he ended up being a dream! Go, Ash! He was also a very human character with flaws.

The plot/story was very good but the ending was unrealistic and too fast. I'm not sure if I would have felt better if it was the first book in a series of books about this couple or if the book was bigger but I felt like there were still things not solved.

Trigger Warnings: Christie does have nightmares, panic attacks, convulses, etc. This happens all throughout the book. Also she is bullied throughout the book as well.

Content: kisses, making out (but generally it was just stated or at least not very detailed) they do sleep next to each other but it is very sweet since he makes her feel safe and be nightmare free.

This fun YA novel with an enemies to lovers trope tells the story of a shy girl and her new male roommate who happens to be a billionaire. Christie is a shy introvert who enjoys art and spending quiet time at home with her family. When their house burns down, Christie's family is taken in by her father's boss, a billionaire who has a mansion not too far from where the lived. Suddenly Christie and her family must adjust to a new lifestyle, including new clothes, a new school and even a crew of wait staff, always present to meet their every need. The one problem is the billionaire's teenage son, Thomas, who is not all that enthusiastic about the new house guests, especially when it is decided that Christie will also attend his private school. Despite feeling rejected and unwelcome, Christie can't help but find herself feeling attracted to this pompous boy who lives across the hall.

I appreciated the character development and the slow introduction of information about their pasts. Additionally, while both main characters grow and change over the course of the story, Christie really blossoms and learns a lot about herself and who she wants to be as the novel progresses. The story did end pretty quickly, and left me wanting a bit more, but overall it was a great story. I also appreciated that it was generally quite tame in the romance area, as I would be comfortable recommending this book to young adults and teens.

I am so glad I had the chance to read and voluntarily review this book! Thanks to Xpresso Book Tours, NetGalley, and Booksprout as well as the publisher for giving me a copy.

*I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

1.5/5

This book centres around Christie Klein, a shy girl who doesn’t have any friends but her parents and art, and she’s okay with that. But when her house burns down and is forced to live with Thomas Ashworth III, everything gets turned upside down. Even though Thomas is mean and prickly, will Christie find the courage to change and make new friends? Maybe even find love?

I’m so sorry but I was not the right audience for this book. Don’t get me wrong, the premise intrigued me and I did like the first third of this book. But it quickly became really hard for me to continue reading, I even considered DNFing multiple times.

First I’ll name things I liked to get started. I liked the sweetness of the romance itself. Though it did read as bland and unimaginative at times. The world building was also done quite well. I liked the amount of information we got about the school and Victoria Falls. Lastly, as I said, I did like the beginning of the book. It was fast paced and I’m a sucker for enemies-to-lovers trope.

Now the things I did not like so much. First, the romance build up was quite unrealistic and a bit too fast for me. Thomas’ character was quite annoying to me, but I think if we read from his perspective as well it would have been fine. Christie (ironically the only perspective we got), I ended up loathing. I wouldn’t call her shy, but more prudish, judgmental, and likes to play the victim. She really got on my nerves and fast. To me she acted like a 12 year old, and got treated like a 12 year old by her parents and others too. Most the interactions between characters was very unnatural and unrealistic. Which leads me to another aspect I didn’t care for: how the plot moved on. This was like “let’s-talk-about-our-feelings” the book. 80% of the book is dialogue. Basically nothing exciting happens except for talking… which became quite boring and the dialogue itself was stilted. It felt robotic at times.

I’m going to stop here because I think I got my feelings across. But yes, unfortunately this book hit all wrong buttons and just left me mildly annoyed.

When Christie’s family home burns down, everything she’s ever known falls as ash around her. The near future seems bleak, until Mr Ashworth, the man who runs the company her father works for announces, within the night, that he will take them in, and they are driven to his mansion. A new house, in a new area, and now Christie must live with people she doesn’t know? And worse, Mr Ashworth’s, pompous son, Thomas Ashworth III lives in the room next door to Christie’s new room.

Christie has never been a people person, but suddenly she is thrust into a world where she is the centre of attention, and she must talk to people other than her parents on a daily basis. But late night conversations and some almost considerate gestures from Thomas (Ash) Ashworth III make Christie start to wonder why she is starting to enjoy Ash’s company.

The end of the blurb perfectly sums this book up. A forced proximity enemies to lovers young adult romance. There is no better way to describe it. Neither Christie nor Ash want to be living together, least of all have to talk to each other, but for the sake of peace, they do. No matter how uncomfortable Christie is, she would be homeless if not for Mr Ashworth, so she has to show her appreciation, even though she would much rather live next to her parents than next to Ash.

Christie’s world is thrown more out of balance more than it seems on the surface. She has only ever really talked to her parents, and they are very close. But living in the manor means they are almost a world apart, and suddenly, instead of spending evenings with them, the adults stick together, and the ‘children’ are not invited. The way the generations are separated really amplifies how close Christie is with her parents, in comparison to how distant Ash is from his.

I really enjoyed the layout of the romance itself in this book. Christie and Ash aren’t immediately friends, rather they are far from it, but they do tolerate each other, and both have things going on in their private lives that affect how they interact with each other. But, as they start to spend more time together, they start to talk, and as always, one thing leads to another. There is the typical young adult trope of miscommunication, a break up, an explanation, and a soppy reunion, but I’m not sure any young adult romance book is truly complete without it! Underneath everything, Ash is an incredibly caring young man, who definitely helps Christie come out of her shell and make friends for the first time in her life.

This book does not just focus on the relationship between Christie and Ash, which really helped to make the story feel real. There are fleshed-out side plots, with characters who bully Christie, and those who would try to jeopardise her and Ash’s relationship, but there are also friendships that are built. I did have some suspicions throughout the whole book that there was something slightly more sinister going on, and my suspicions were addressed nearer the end of the book when Christie starts to think the exact same thing. If you’ve read this book, you’ll know what I mean! The fact that the book had me thinking those things way before the idea was even thrown out there really goes to show that the way this book has been written is very clever, and I certainly had a sense of unease throughout. I almost felt as though I were Christie, feeling on edge even though there is seemingly no reason to be.

One thing in particular that I loved was that Christie and Ash both have hobbies that are important to them, but those hobbies don’t dictate their lives. In so many young adult books I’ve read, the main character’s hobby is the only thing that defines who they are, and what they do with their time. But both Christie and Ash have hobbies that are important to them, that they’d like perhaps make a career out of, but their lives don’t revolve around them. This detail made the characters so much more realistic to read about.

This is not what I would call a particularly long book, although some may disagree. It is a very quick read, although that may be due to the fact I couldn’t put it down, and less because of the actual length of the book! I read this book within a day.

If you’re a fan of young adult romance as a genre in itself, you’re bound to love this book. I know I did! This is a new author to me, but I will definitely be looking out for more of their work in the future.

So I thought that the book was cute. I was really hoping to have at least one chapter from Ash's POV but we didn't really get that. I'm not as big of a fan of single POV books because I really like to know what both MC's are thinking about the situations happen. Even though this was single POV, it was still cute. I like that even though we weren't in Ash's head, I still felt his love for Christie basically from Chaper 4 on. SHE didn't really feel it at all times and you could tell a lot of that was her self-confidence issues at play.

I wish that Christie would have had more back bone. I know she is the "shy" girl but she didn't have to be weak. I personally am very shy and really stink at talking to attractive men or the "mean" girls and I still have a back bone. When forced to speak my voice, I always do. I think that Christie would have been more interesting and relatable to me if she were written that way.

I think that Ash was hard to get a read on a little bit. I understood that he liked Christie and I got that but I guess I felt I wasn't given enough context to Vanessa. I thought from the get go that she was sweet but then your vision is soured later on of her. It confused me because it felt like it came out of nowhere. Then there was Ash trying to be nice? but still being a total idiot. That really got to me too.

I felt like I had an unanswered question with the hospitality of Ash's dad. Ash's take on what his dad was doing confused me a little and I don't feel like it was the only reason that the Klein's were offered to stay. I think I would have liked more explanation there but I am also fine with leaving it where it is too I guess. That doesn't make complete sense but what I mean was that since it was a plot point that didn't matter so much, it's okay that I have an unanswered question lingering there.

All in all, it was a cute story. I have read a lot of these types of books, like the "Curvy Girls Can't Date..." ones and they are all cute too. I liked that this one felt shorter than those usually do. I know that it didn't take me as long to read as those did. Granted, the author that writes the Curvy Girl's Can't series that I read is a completely different author. That series is actually called "The Curvy Girl Club" sorry for mistyping that!

Any who - I like this book and I thought that it was a good, cute read. It is a CLEAN romance which is nice to read in-between the not so clean ones! haha!

I recommend this book for sure! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

That opening had me hooked! The hellish ness of waking up in a fire, and then a limo turning up, and then arriving at a mansion.

Thomas was such a grump when we first meet him. But I totally get why he wanted Christie and her family out. When we drive further into his story and what’s been happening in his life and with his family, I was totally crushing on him. Not only were their dates magical, but I loved their quiet intimate moments where the two became more vulnerable together.

I totally related to Christie. As someone who is hopelessly shy in social situations, I truly felt her pain. And I love how she made friends who helped her come into her own by the end.

I really enjoyed this story, and can’t wait for the next in the series!

This was a sweet enjoyable book.

I wasn’t too sure in the beginning when the family moved, (like why? What's the motive? So many questions?) but, ignoring that, the book was fun to read.

It was a light read, and I enjoyed the characters together. I liked seeing Christie move beyond her shyness/ stand up for herself and make friends! I wanted more at the same time, I wanted to know more about her, and her art.

I also hoped to have a dual POV, feel what Ash was feeling, I think that would have cemented their chemistry more, made it more real.

All in all, the book was enjoyable, the relationship between her and Ash was cute! I wouldn’t mind reading more about the other characters in the book, maybe Vanessa or Meghan! I think it would be fun to know their stories, see them grow, and watch them fall in love.

This book felt so begginery, the way it was shown on tik tok just isn’t the same at all
The plots so stiff, the guys dad is so kind to her family for what reason? Billionaires just don’t hand out kindness like that😭
I think I would’ve loved this book if I read it when I first got into reading again when I was younger and didn’t know many books, but there’s just so many better books out there

Ash is the son of a billionaire and is trying to help repair his parent's broken relationship. Christie is a shy girl who has never had friends and is dealing with the aftermath of losing her home to a fire.

Shy Girls Can't Date Billionaires was a cute story. I loved Ash's character and how attentive and caring he was towards Christie.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is told from Christie’s point of view

– Christie & her family lose pretty much everything in a fire; Christie has nightmares about the fire

Review:

I removed a star because the change from hate to like/love (for me) was a little too quick and because the back and forth in Christie’s thoughts about the people around her was a bit too much (it was understandable why there was so much back and forth due to new information/situations coming up, it just wasn’t an enjoyable part for me).

I did like (after a bit) Christie & Ash’s relationship and how it made both of them open up a little. I liked that it softened Ash and gave him a person to confide in that wouldn’t possibly use the information later against him. He was so sweet with Christie and tried to understand what she was thinking/going through while also doting on her in ways she didn’t expect. I liked that Ash made Christie feel comfortable enough to be her own person instead of the shadow she typically was in her last school. I liked that she was still shy, but willing to make an effort in making more friends on her own and not looking at her feet when passing people. Some of my favorite scenes included: dancing, stargazing, late night swimming, a party, and comfort after a nightmare.

When Christie and her family lose their home in the middle of the night, they are surprised to get a call telling them to expect a limo to bring them to her dad’s boss’s mansion. And even more surprised to find that his boss wants them to live with him and his son until they can get back on their feet.

But not everyone in the house is happy to have them there. Thomas Ashworth III has made it quite clear to Christie that she is not welcome there. Between his indifference to her presence and lack of wanting to speak to her, despite them sleeping one room over from one another, he makes her stay quite uncomfortable. Until Christie joins him at his school and he does something surprising and kind for her. It’s a complete 180 from when they first met and it makes Christie wonder just which personality is the real him.

As she learns more about his kind side, Christie finds herself falling for him and gets swept up in the feelings she has for him. But when she falls back to reality, Christie wonders if he truly feels the same way or if she’s just temporary in his way of life…

Sweet romance abounds in this cute read with lots of heart.

Christie's life is thrown on its head as a fire consumes everything her family owns. Until things get settled, her father's boss invites them to live in his mansion with him and his son. His son, however, is anything but enthused and makes his negative opinion about the setup clear. Things flip-flop, when Christie begins taking classes at his school, and she's not sure how to handle any of it.

The books opens with a huge hook as Christie faces the fire and has her life burn to the ground. It was no problem to sympathize with her as she tried to come to terms with everything, and totally understandable when the new situation pushed her way beyond her comfort zone. That the book is written from her point of view, her decisions and feelings were always clear and well laid out. It made it easy to root for her and warming to follow her as she learns to open up to those around her.

This is a enemy to friends romance with tons of sweet moments. Ash's initial dissatisfaction with Christie and her family invading his life was understandable, and while he did come across a bit harsh, wasn't extreme. I do wish this had been written from both sides, since Ash's actions might have been a little more sympathetic if his thoughts had been clear, but it still works well enough. The enemy to friend change happened a bit quick, but even this was still enjoyable with tons of sweetness piled on.

I enjoyed the light read and did find myself cheering for both of them.
I received a DRC and found this to be a cute read.

My rating of 4 stars is more for the fact that this is a cute ya high school romance book that is also well (okay) written and not if I loved/liked it.

I mean In terms of my personal enjoyment i would rate it a 3ish? But I didn’t want that to affect my review as that is just because Ive outgrown the cutesy living in the same house shy girl romances, but i know my 13 year old self would’ve eaten this up.

If cute wholesome relationships w forced proximity, a very shy female lead + rich male lead and very small amount of drama / angst are your thing then you should definitely read this.

My only criticism about this book is that that third act thing was so ridiculous, like not even kindergarteners fight over something so small. I need more melodrama.

If this wasn’t already clear this is PG and YA so only kissing ahead.

This book was not what I was expecting at all. It would seem as though it is a mystery, but it really is not. It has an air of mystery, but is more of a romance.

Christie and her family have lost everything in a house fire. Standing there lucky to be alive, the family gets an unexpected hand from her father's boss a work. As they pull up to a mega mansion or manor as it is called, the family is surprised by their good fortune to have a place to stay. Things seem to good to be true and Christie runs into the billionaires son Thomas. As a shy girl who is used to being invisible, the new attention she is receiving is hard to comprehend.

Throughout the story Christie embarks on a journey of self discovery. It is not an easy road for her and there will be many obstacles in her path. She has a hard time trusting people and their intentions. Thomas has his own set of problems and tends to take things out on others. He is struggling for some form of normalcy.

Overall the book is full of teenage drama and devastation. There are many struggles with all the characters. But the story line is full of love and caring. It is planned out with depth and intriguing possibilities. It was a wonderful read.

When Christie's families house catches fire, she is unsure where they will go. Finding out that her Dad's boss is putting them up in his mansion is a bit unnerving. Christie doesn't expect much but when she is put in the path of Thomas Ashworth III, the son who is her age the shy girl isn't sure why he has so much disdain for her. Disdain leans to something more as they get to be around one another, but can it last?

Christie bumbles a bit at times but overall entertaining story. Thomas has a major chip on his shoulder but as time goes by Christie sees a different side. There is a lot going on in the background in this book. Good enemies to lovers story.

This book starts when Christie wakes up one night to her families house on fire. Now homeless, her dad's boss offers to let them stay in his house that's more like a mansion. Having to leave her school and hometown Christie begins living there. In the same house a few doors away is Ash's bedroom, the billionaires son. At first he comes off as rude and bratty but when they get closer and he starts making her feel welcome. I love how alpha male Ash fell in love before Christie. I also loved how they began to get to know each other and the overall feel of chemistry.

After Christie house burns down her family is taken in by a billionaire tycoon. His mansion has countless bedrooms, yet my room is next door to his son, Thomas Ashworth III. Yes, he’s as pompous as the name suggests. And, for some reason, he hates my guts.

Even though his arrogance drives me crazy, his chiselled features turn me into a stammering, awkward mess. I hate being stuck with someone I can’t stand. And when he does something unexpectedly kind, it confuses my heart.

When I bump into him in the middle of the night, I’d never guess it lead to us sharing secrets.

He’s impossible to get out of my head. But he wouldn’t consider dating someone like me. Would he?

Wow! This book was such a fun read!
We follow Christie a shy girl who just had a devastating accident happen in her life. She then meets Ash a billionaire's son who rocks her world.
Milly does a great job at giving us real characters with flaws that make them relatable.
The romance was so cute and everything one could want in a book.

I recieved a free copy of this book and chose to write an honest review:)

SHY GIRLS CAN'T DATE BILLIONAIRES By Milly Rose

Christie's house burns down, all her memories and her paintings gone. Her Fathers employer gets to know about this and offers to house them at his residence. There she meets Ash.

😊What i liked -

✔ YA Sweet Romance/Forced Proximity.
✔ I liked Christie's character development. From being a loner to coming out of her shell.
✔ It's a clean Romance.
✔ It was a cute and sweet easy read.
✔ I liked Ash and Christie's relationship, from being wary of eachother to giving eachother comfort.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I think a bit of explanation on Ash's father's generosity towards Christie's family was needed. It left me confused as to why.
✔ I would have liked a dual POV narrative.

This book was really good! It was actually on the suspenseful side. Throughout much of the book, I was wondering who the good guy really was. The love story was sweet, a bit steamy though. This is a standalone book, so you're not left hanging. Note: I'm an ARC reader

Christie is a shy girl who feels invisible and is suddenly in a spotlight. Her family's homeless due to a fire and her father's boss takes then in. There is plenty of room since he's a billionaire! But now she runs into the boss' son, Thomas Ashworth III. It's uncomfortable and it's scary. Dreams of the fire disrupt her sleep while she's trying to navigate a new school and knowing the standoff Ash.

💛 🧡 💛

This is a teen / YA romance that features the enemies to lovers trope. It also highlights the shy girls. ❤️ It's a sweet romance, so nothing gets too spicy which I appreciate. Yes, this is a standalone novel ... but I'd love to hear more about Ash's sister ... 😉😁

Book Highlights...
- shy girl
- navigating a new school
- navigating new friendships
- navigating new family dynamics
- enemies to friends
- unwrapping a little mystery
- grieving
- art
