The BARNARD STREET DANCE Fund

The Barnard Street Dance is back! BarnArts and the Barnard Rec Department are collaborating on the return of this cherished community tradition, this year at the Barnard Town Hall. The event will be held outdoors, with bathrooms and an indoor rain location also available inside the town hall.

This family-friendly party gets started at 3:00 pm with the band “ItsComplikated” providing the soundtrack for games & activities with Barnard Rec, including a dunk tank. At 4:30 pm “Chloe, Justin & Friends” pick up the mic, followed by our dance party headliners “Moxley Union” at 6:30 pm and “The Party Crashers” at 7:45 pm.

Dancers enjoy music at the Barnard Town Hall in April

Bring a dish to share for the Community Potluck, open inside the Barnard Town Hall from 5:30 pm-7 pm. BarnArts will have non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase from 3 pm until the event closes. This is a non-alcoholic family event.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Barnard Street Dance is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome to cover the costs of the event. We inherited a small fund from the last street dance (2015), and all funds raised beyond this year’s costs will be saved for next year. Costs Include:
-musician fees
-music production costs (sound engineering, lights)
-poster design and printing
-set up and cleanup fees
-games and entertainment expenses

History of the Event:

The Street Dance, 2009?

The Barnard Street Dance was a beloved community event in Barnard that ran 21 years from 1994 to 2015. Former General Store owners Carolyn Dicicco and Kim Furlong organized early dances, which featured a line-up of local musicians with the popular “Jeanne and The High-tops” headlining. The party took over the porch and street in front of the Barnard General Store, and people of all ages enjoyed our wonderful town center, enjoying food from the store, the beautiful Silver Lake, and music from talented local musicians. When the former owners left in 2012, the Barnard Community Trust (BCT) helped place the current owners of the General Store, and saved the building. Community volunteers, including organizers from the store and the BCT, kept the event going. Sadly, The tradition came to an end in 2015, after an unfortunate accident during the event.

New Location:
To bring the event back, we are moving to a safe location at the Barnard Town Hall where we can dance worry-free. The back lawn will be used for games and family fun, and the music will be set up out front (weather permitting!) Bring chairs!
