Higher Education and Student Parent Supports:
Barriers, Challenges, and Opportunities

In March 2020, Generation Hope held the first in a series of four focus groups to inform our FamilyU technical assistance program. We also endeavored to understand the ways in which institutions were already thinking about student parent efforts and what roadblocks often prevented them from implementing those supports. This report details the high-level findings of those conversations and provides context for our call to action for colleges and universities to better address the needs of student parents — not only coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, but in the long term.

“If you aren’t at the table, then you are on the menu.”
