Community-based savings groups provide poor households with safe and frequent opportunities to save and take loans in the convenience of their own community, thereby enabling them to accumulate assets and increase their resilience to shocks and stresses. The Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) methodology developed by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is now in use in 61 countries, reaching 196,000 groups and 4.6 million members.

To ensure these groups are sustainable, CRS developed the Private Service Provider (PSP) model which sees groups formed, trained and supported by networks of community-based, fee-for-service trainers. The PSP approach was first piloted in East Africa and is now a proven approach in multiple regions.

In partnership with CRS, Mercy Corps has spent the past year taking the CRS SILC and PSP in-person training resources and manuals and using them to develop two online learning courses. The purpose of the courses is to equip staff, principally project officers and field supervisors, to train and support field agents to form, train and supervise groups using the PSP-SILC methodology, and to become successful and self-sufficient PSPs to ensure sustainable delivery.

In this session, participants will learn about the SILC and PSP approaches, including a demonstration of the new PSP eLearning course.

This event will be in English with French interpretation.
