Tropical Storm Alex forms in the Atlantic Ocean, becomes first named storm of 2022 season

Tropical Storm Alex formed early Sunday in the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the first named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The FOX 35 Storm Team said the storm is moving away from the United States and will not impact Florida anymore.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT TROPICAL STORM ALEX

Where is the system located? The storm is currently located about 475 miles west southwest of Bermuda. 

What direction is the system moving, and how fast? Alex is moving toward the east-northeast near 23 mph. 

Maximum sustained winds: 65 mph

What are the main weather impacts: The tropical storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall  – about two to three inches of rain – across Bermuda late tonight into Monday. Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin late tonight or on Monday on the island. 

What is the system's projected timeline? "A fast motion toward the east-northeast is expected through Monday, followed by an eastward motion at a slower forward speed on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the tropical storm is expected to pass near or just north of Bermuda on Monday," the NHC said in the latest advisory.
