Fire Safety Systems Licensing

PLEASE NOTE:  Denver Fire Department will be transitioning to the use of a 3rd party vendor for testing of Journeyman Fire Safety Systems Licensing. Denver Fire Department licenses required for the design, installation, modification, inspection, and testing of all life safety and conveyance systems and equipment.

Complete the Fire Safety Systems License Application

Apprentices and Journeymen must complete an application and provide the following:

  • Completed legible application.
  • Provide proof of CSA ID Card or for Spanish Sprinkler testers proof of State Fitter Exam.
  • Proof of payment to obtain your license.

In the City and County of Denver, all installers of life safety systems, and all those who perform the service of inspecting those systems, must have current licenses issued by the Denver Fire Department. These safety systems include:

  • Fire protection systems (sprinkler systems)
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Portable fire extinguishers
  • Public Safety Bi-Directional Amplifier Systems (BDA)
  • Fire Pumps
  • Health Safety Coordinator
  • Mass Notification Communication Systems
  • Venue Safety and Emergency Evacuation Coordinator
  • Central Station Runner
  • Facility Safety Administrator
  • Apprentices doing this work under a journeyman, who are registered in an approved apprentice training program or have a signed agreement in place with a contractor (see below), are required to be registered with the Denver Fire Department (but not required to hold a license).
